AREA DIRECTORY - E. Pat Emmott, chairman of the directory
committee and Mel Cruzan, president of the Greater Bellafife
Chamber of Commerce, display the Chamber’s 1970 Southwest
area telephone directory presently being distributed in the great-
er Bellaire area.
Chamber Directory
ReflectsArea Growth
The Greater Bellaire Cham-
ber of Commerce’s Southwest
Area telephone directory is a re-
flection of the growth and change
that has occured in this area dur-
ing the past 19 years.
The Chamber first published
a directory in 1951 and it contain-
ed less than 4300 alphabetical
listings in the white pages and
there were only 35 pages in the
yellow section that year.
The 1970 edition has 47,428
listings and nearly 100 yellow
pages.
The first year approximately
2500 directories were printed,
according to E. Pat Emmott,
chairman of the Chamber’s di-
rectory committee. This year
35,000 directories will be dis-
tributed.
Aside from the largest direc-
tory yet, this year’s edition was
the first to use a comouter to set
up the white page listings. The
names to be included in the direc-
tory were put into a computer
which alphabetized them and
then made printing plates.
Other members of the direc-
tory committee include Jack Gur-
well, directory supervisor, and
committeeman Joseph Dale Ro-
bertson.
The sales staff this year in-
cluded Nancy Evans, sales man-
ager, Peggy Ariza, Emalyn Win-
qulst, Catherine Davies.
