UH Students Check Children's Eyes

Some 500 youngsters had their
eyes tested by volunteer Univer-
sity ot Houston optometry stu-
dents Saturday at the UH Opto-
The children, ranging from 8 to
17 years old, are Little Brothers-
fatherless boys "adopted” by Big
Brothers, Inc., of Houston.
Roger Boltz, optometry stu-
dent, originated the project
through the student chapter of
Phi Theta Upsilon, professional
Boltz had been active in Big
Brothers and urged the fratern-
ity members to conduct the vi-
sion screening program of the
children as a service project.
The boys came to the clinic
with their mothers or other big
brothers for the first part of their
tests, an examination for visual
acuity, said Boltz.
If the boys needed further test-
ing or care, it was done then.

Lynch, Werlin Nuptials
Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Pyle Da-
niel Werlin, who were married
in a ceremony composedby them-
selves with excerpts taken from
Kahlil Gibran’s book “The Pro-
phet” and from the Old Testa-
ment, are now making their home
in New York City.
Mrs. Werlin was the former
Miss Eloise Ann Lynch, former-
ly of Cuyahogo Falls, Mich, and
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Hugh Francis Lynch, and Mr.
Werlin is the son of Mrs. Rosella
Werlin, wife of the late Dr. Joseph
S. Werlin, for 30 years professor
of Sociology at the University of
Houston and director andfounder
of the University of Houston In-
ternational Cultural Tours.
A reception in Houston for the
couple will be held in the spring
when the newlyweds plan to visit
The ceremony was performed
in the United Nations Chapel at 12
noon, Oct. 31, with Dr. CarlSoule,
official chaplain of the United Na-
tions, officiating. A reception fol-
lowed at the Cornell Club in New
Mrs. Kevin O’Neill of Birming-
ham, Mich. Sister of the bride,
served as matron of honor, and
Dr. Herbert Holland Werlin of
College Park, My., brother of the
groom, was best man.
Mrs. Werlin was graduated
Cum Laude with a bachelor of
Science degree from St. John
College of Cleveland, Ohio; and
received a master of Science
from the University of Michigan,
while on a U.S. Public Health
