Helen Webster, always a gra-
cious hostess, decided at 5 p.m.
Saturday he had better prepare for
a party. The winds of success
were blowing she’d be ready.
And ready she was for a house-
full of happy friends, congratul-
ating the Mayor-elect and those
chosen for council seats.

Many had spent the full day at
the polls. Bright red faces were
evidence of the faithful. The sun-
burned noses and foreheads we re
uniformly bright on Mr. Web-
ster, Pete Gohlke, Sam McKin-
ney and friends.

Among the friends who came
to cheer were Mr. and Mrs. Les-
ter Weison, 4526 Bellaire Blvd.;
Jinny and Bill Steed, 4608 Hui-
sache, (participating in their first
electioneering for long-time
friend Sam McKinney), Bob and
Moppy Gay, 4817 Evergreen (still
chuckling over the Gridiron Show
they had seen last weekend), Dick
and Dorothy Mason, 4922 Linden.
Saucy Dorothy said she knew her
good friend Helen Webster was
getting weary of the campaigning
when she fussed with her over a
bridge game last week. First
time in the history of their
friendship.. .even-tempered He-
len is glad it's over.

Council members Earl Kelly
and Jack Randolph and their
wives Louise and Ruby Dell were
after-election party-goers. Al-
so Mayor and Mrs. Bill Rouse
were enjoying the hoopla and
Helen’s delicious buffet of iced
crab claws, hot barbecued sau-
sage Jay had bought at Fulshear,
cheesea dn delicious sliced ham
and beef.

Realtor Ann Stromatt was late
to the party, she and her husband
WJ had been to a very important
event - the pre-wedding festivi-
ties for their son Dave who was
married on Sunday.

She was at the Bay for the week-

Defeated but still smiling,
mustachioed Larry Raney was
vowing he’d be around to learn
more about the city government
by volunteering for any assign-
ment. . .he made a lot of friends
this trip. Incidentally he’s a
local boy who grew up in Bel-
laire and came back to live af-
ter his marriage.

Mrs. Audrey Butcher, secretary
of the Greater Bellaire Chamber
of Commerce, had a flying trip
to Hawaii in March to see her
husband, Lee Peterson, now on
Navy duty at Da Nang, Vietnam.
Cindy and Lee had a happy week
together and after Cincy return-
ed home she got the good news
that Lee will get his discharge
when he returns from Vietnam
in September. Cincy starts a
new job this week at Cravens,

There is a standing dispute
among some historians as to the
person responsible for originating
baseball, but Colonel Abner
Doubleday has generally been
recognized as the founder of the
game. However, some historians
claim that the credit should go to
Alexander Cartwright.
it is a proven fact that the first
game of baseball, with rules,
was played on June 19, 1846, at
Hoboken, New Jersey, between
the Knickerbocekrs and the New
York Nine. The first professional
baseball team was the Cincinnati
Red Stockings, who were credited
with introducing baseball uni-
forms as we now know them.
Our business can be compared
to a game of baseball—we give
each customer his money’s worth,
we are professionals in our busi-
ness, and we give it “all we’ve
got” to provide each customer
with the very best in service.
