Short 1* after noon last Saturday
our of the most venerable pioneers
of this section was laid to rest at the
Rowlett Creek cnnetery, teat miles
north of Plano.
James Franklin Rowland, aged nine-
ty one years, passed peacefully away
last Friday at his home about seven
miles southwest of Plano, and about
two miles northwest of Richardson,
niter a residence in that neighborhood
fm more than half a century. The fun
etttt was conducted at the family
home at 10:30 Saturday, conducted by
Rev Scott, of Richardson. The de-
ciased was a member of the Baptist
church, the oldest member or the con-
gregation of the Mount Calveiv Bap-

Dress Governed By
Custom, That's All
Adam and Eva were garbed in a
single fig leaf each, but that was the
custom with them and the demands
0 modesty were satisfied.
From the days of the fig leaf down
through the centuries to the cumber-
some and trailing skirt each step nas
bem taken through Innovation and
sanctioned by custom.
The trailing skirl was both unsam
tary and a uuisiance, and the time was
properly discarded. Custom popular

Now we have the vefy short skirt
and lhe knickers, and custom dcrees
that there is no valid objection to
them.
In former days women rode bora**
back and ou side saddles and con-
tiacted curvature of the spine. Then
a few of the more daring ones donned
pants and rode man fashion. The up-
roar was at first great but now It is
the custom and is regarded as the
only sensible way to ride.
The tendency of the age is simpli-
city in dress, discarding everything
Dial ip not in accord with comfort,
anu in protection of health.
We may never return to the fig leaf,
but the nearer we approach it ttie
greater is our freedom of action and
the longer our span of life.
Shocks and thrills may Hlgnalize
some of tlie stages, but custom will
stop every tongue from wagging
