Mrs. Harrison Trow Gives
Section of Land to Way-
land College for Memorial
to Memory of Hasband
Following the visit hero Wednesday of Dr. L. J.
Mims, representing the Baptist Convention of Texas,
and President McDonald of Wayland Baptist Col•
lege of Plaimnew, the news was released Thursday
by Rev. W. R. Hill of the local Baptist church that
Mrs. Harrison Trow, widow of the late Captain
Trow, has matie a generous amt magnificent gift to
IFay land College. The gift consists of a section
of line land in Castro county, accepted try the Col-
lege at a valuation of $16,000, this amount of mon-
ey to he used as a fund with which to erect a spa-
cious reception and social center for the College
in the new girls dormitory at Plainview and to be
known as the Harrison Trow Memorial, in memory
of Captain Trow.
This splendid gift to the College ami tribute to
the memory of her husltand by Mrs. Trow has arous-
ed the greatest enthusiasm in Baptist circles and
put new jest and life into the drive of the denomi-
nation for better and enlarged school facilities at
Wayland. It is understood that it has been known
for sometime that Mrs. Trow contemplated some
such action hut the visit here Wednesday Ivy the
Baptist ofiicials was the first time the decision had
been definitely brought to a head. The Memorial
building made possible under the terms of Mrs.
Trow's generosity, it is said, will be begun about
January l on the Wayland campus.
Captain Trow, in whose memory the Memorial
will stand, was a pioneer financeer of this section,
a famous Indian fighter and ex-Con,federate soUlier,
and known over a large section of the country for
his deeds and fearlessness during the pumeering
days of the Southuwst.
