Kalka-Cook Vows Pledged In Double Ring Ceremony

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Burch, White
Deer, announce the engagement and
(approaching marriage of their daug-
hter,' Jan to Severn Roberts, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Don Roberts of Fritch.
Miss Burch is a 1967 graduate of
White Deer High and attended
Draughon’s Business College and is
employed with Skelly Oil Company
in Pampa. Mr. Roberts is a 1967
graduate of Sanford-Fritch High, at-
tended Draughon’s Business College
and is now employed with Natural
(Gas Pipeline Company of America.
The vows will be exchanged May
29, 1969.
PERSONAL GROWTH IS
THEME OF MEETING OF
SOCIETY FOR TEACHERS
Miss Janet Cook, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. M. Cook of Purvis and
Magee, recently became the bride
of Robert A. Kalka, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Eddie Kalka of White Deer, in
a ceremony at St. Stephen’s Cath-
olic Church in Magee.
Rev. Lyle Chrobak officiated at
the double ring ceremony. Music
was presented by Mrs. Janie Ains-
worth of Magee, organist, and Ar-
chie Magee of Mendenhall, vocalist.
Five palms provided' a back-
ground for the arrangements of pink
and white carnations and candelab-
ra. Bouquets of carnations were
placed alternately along each side
of the church.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a gown of organza
and peau d’ange lace over satin.
The fitted bodice was fashioned with
a s:a’.loped neckline of lace. The
long pointed sleeves featured lace!
insets and the slim skirt was edged
by scalloped lace at the hemline.
Her veil fell from a bow of organza
and pearls, and she carried a bou-
quet of white carnations and pink
rosebuds centered with an orchid.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Ann
Alf;:,’d of Magee, aunt of the bride.
She wore an empire-styled, floor-
length gown of pink and carried a
bouquet of pink, and white carna-
tions.
Flower girl was Wanda Alford,
cousin of tb,e bride. Ringbearer was
Ken McCarley, cousin of the bride.
Both are from Magee.
Best man was Melvin Kalka of
Hereford, Texas, brother of the
groom. Ushers were Alvin Kalka of
White Deer, Texas, brother of the
groom, and V. J. Runnels of Ma-
Track Meet Results
Seven members of the varsity
track team participated in the Re-
gional track meet in Lubbock last
Friday and Saturday.
These boys were Johnny Slagle,
David Guinn, Ricky Thurman,
John Cornwell, Steve v Langston,
Robert Thomas and Jerry Urban-
czyk.
Ricky Thurman placed 4th in the
discus throw with, a throw of 139’.
Johnny Slagle placed 7th in the 889
yard dash with a time of 2:05.0.

Clauda Everly, Lelia Clifford, and
Mary Dean Dozier, all of Pampa.
Eleven teachers from Panhandle at-
tended the meeting. Fifteen teachers
from Pampa, Evelyn Chamberlain,
(Marguerite Hudgins and Shirley
Kelly from White Deer.
Mrs. Clementine Morgan, Pan-
handle, presided over the meeting.
Mrs. Shirley Kelly, White Deer, led
a drill on the society constitution.
Scholarships for summer school
school were awarded to Barbara
Williams, teacher at Panhandle, and
Ramona Gruben, teacher at Pampa.
Gene Tatum, Pampa, introduced a
panel who presented a program on
“Personal Growth and Service.”
Those on the panel were Rachael
Jones, Ruby Ruddick, Exie Vantine,
and Ila Poole, all of Pampa. Ila
(Poole played a recording of an inter-
view with Judge John Warner of
'Pampa, scout Red Cross, and hos-
pital personnel as part of the panel
program.
The panel emphasized service su-
ch as scouts, Hospital Volunteers,
. and preparedness in time of disas-
ters. As a special service to the
Veterans Hospital in Amarillo, Ge-
nie Tatum asked the chapter to make
quilted lap robes to- be used by
wheel chair patients.
The panel said, “True values of
life are not measured in dollars.
True values are measured in serv-
ices to others. Personal growth and
services are inseparable. Work puts
ta touch of life in us. It gives us a
(chance to influence the lives of oth-
ers. It helps us to feel that we are
competent to handle life”.
The next meeting, a luncheon on
May 3, will be at the home of Fide-
lia Hogge, 600 Maple, Panhandle.
• Hostesses will be Vera Copeland,
Bette Gill, Mary Ewing,, Rosemary
Melton, Jayne Sadler, George E.
Simms, and Barbara Williams, all
lof Panhandle.
The mother of the bride wore a
blue dress featured with a front
lace panel. The bridegroom’s moth-
er chose an ensemble of gray. Both
wore orchid corsages.
Following the ceremony a recep-
tion was held at the home of Mrs.
H- F. McCarty in Magee. Mrs. Joe
Robertson, cousin of the bride of
New Orleans, presided at the reg
ister.
The reception table featured a sil-
ver candelabra in the center. On
one side was the three-tiered cake
decorated with pale pink and a min-
iature bride and groom on top. On
the other side pink carnations were
placed around the silver punch
bowl. A pink ice ring floated' in the
punch.
Assisting at the reception were
Mirs. Kendrick McCarley, Mrs. V.
J. Runnels and Mbs;. Melvin Ulmer
of New Orleans.
For traveling, the bride wore a
light gold dress suit and the orchid
from her bouquet.
After a wedding trip to Natchez,
tile couple will make their home in
Magee.
On the eve of the wedding, Mrs.
V. J. Runnels, aunt of the bride,
entertained with a rehearsal dinner
in her home in Magee.
