Lantana tes project
gets final topping
The paving of the test project
on Lantana is now complete
according to Bill Windham,
Director of Public Works. The
project was the first attempt by
the city to pave a street using
the double coarse topping meth-
od. The last street to be paved
within the city limits was a
portion of Ave. A in June of
City Engineer Bob Hutchison
said that after getting a late
start last Tuesday the city crew
and Triangle Construction crew
of Corpus Christ! were able to
finish before 6 p.m. Hutchison
said that for a first project by
the city he was pleased with the
results. He also stated that the
city crew learned a lot in the
process of paving this test
About the only difficulty
encountered during the topping
was along the edges of the new
roadway, Hutchison said.
“There was a minor problem
with loose sand along the edges
but the main roadway is fine.”
Windham said that he also
considered the job an excellent
learning process, and that the
city now has a fine roadway that
should last 10 to 20 years.
The city council has requested
a report on the Lantana Project
before making its final decision
on a street paving program.
