Hello friends; and we’re still
having lots of trouble with this
here leap-year ground-hog stuff.
That ain’t nothing either, we’re
still having our fun. But you know
something? Sumpum musta went
Ka-flooey. The chicks has sort of
slowed up. I don’t exactly know
what’s going on, but it can’t be
the leap-year weather. You wanna
know why? As tough as some of
its been since 60 got in here mud
tromping and challenging is been
going on just the same. Something
has went haywire and I ain’t near-
ly about ready to try to come in
contact with whatever it is. What-
ever goes on here there is always
the boobeys. But Saturday evening
and a little while during the nite
Joe Davis, Wilmer Tippen, and
Gayley Robinson of Beeville was
here. I just did have time to see
them roosters. You see Wilmer is
my cousin and I know good and
well he slipped off from his

spouse and come here. Sure, sure
I knowed Joe and Gailey was
booked up too, but I didn’t know
they slipped off too. There’s lots
to say about big Wilmer. He has
a brother and sister here. That’s
Jim and Janie Tippen.
It makes no difference how the
weather acts at times they come
here for the week end just the
same. Thats one reason we think
Refuugio is one of the best build-
ing up citys at the first entrance
of the top of the Coastal Bend.
Just a few days ago Ethel Bell
Williams came here from Austwel!
to visit friends and relatives.
Ethel has a spouse. He is the un-
forgettable Joe Williams, one of
the finest guys around. Ethel Bell
still has the baby face as I used
to know. And if I wasn’t such a
good friend to them, I wouldn’t
sound off at all. Now then, “I
saw Joe Sunday up here and he
acts just like he always do. With
Joe was a big rooster that’s al-
ways here. I don't know his name,
but he is O.K. too.” But one of
the biggest landslides I’ve seen in
a long time here comes Trelbert
Perrymap, and his chicken from
Alice. I thought they lived in Hous-
ton. They’re Goliad giddys and
Alice is home No. 2. Sometimes
its a little trouble around here at
home. You wanna know why I
guess? You see there is lots of
young chicks thhat come up fast
and every one wants to see their
name in the news. Well that’s fine,
that’s the way it’s been every
since I started this stuff. Then too,
it’s not always that the seniors ap-
prove. You know when I first start-
ed things use to be pretty rough,
but later it stopped. Now its just
groovey and I like my job. Just
iooka here, I’ve met three col-
onels since World War II right
here at home. If there ever was
any boosters (they’re them), I
wont call any names, (but I know
um). Last week was the first time
I been away from here since
Christmas (except pretty close). I
went to Victoria. The way its
growed I almost thought I was in
Houston where I ain’t been since
Uncle turned me loose. The pretty
chicks that I seen I think I’ll go
back and look again. You know
folks I don’t need to say this; but
I want to clear out. The weather
has just been too tough to rassle
with. But I’m doing my best.
Thanks for everything. I’ll be
around (I hope.)
* Hasta-La-Vista,
Robert Billups.
