The members of the bar of Harrjs coun-

comprises the Alpha and Omega of his
life and In all the years whion las- be-
tween amid the trials of orphanhood and
poverty and the hardships of a primitive
country and the struggles of a young law-
yer striving to gain professional foothold
at a bar composed of lawyers who were
leaders In their profession for nearly fifty
years an active practitioner at the bar
or as a representative of his people In
the hal's of legislation and for nearly
nine years a Judge of the district court
he bore himself as. became a man and
with -lean hands and an honest heart
met every obligation devolving upon him
as citizen lawyer. Judge husband and
father.
He was a man of strong convlcUons and
ai times apparently somewhat Intolerant
of contradiction and always fearless in x-
pressiou of his opinions but hosvever
much such expression may have antagon-
ized others no man ever Questioned the
Integrity of hla purpose or action.
As a judge h unfailingly did what he
conceived to be risht and no man can
Justly charge that he ever consciously or
Intentionally swerved from the most rigid
perpendicular of judicial impartiality and
official rectitude.
He possessed the confidence of his fel-
low citizens because he deserved It and
has left to his children and their chil-
dren the priceless heritage of the memory
of a life worthily lived along lofty levels.
He was a man of tender sympathy and
always readily responsive to the call of
those who sorrowed or were In need and
it Is known nf all men that out of the
kindness of his heart he cared for as his
ovn and brightened the lives and shaped
for nobler ends the characters of those
beyond the circle of his own family.
Though denied In his youth the advaji-
tafres of institutions of higher learning
he by his unaided efforts acquired famil-
iarity with the classics and higher mathe-
matics as well as with several foreign
languages and -what Is to the majority
of men a task most difficult was to him
a constant intellectual enjoyment.
He battled long against Insidious wear-
Ins: wasting disease but met the Inevit-
able summons sustained by an abiding
trust In the fundamentals of Christian
faith .instilled Into his mind by the
TMotlier Church to the tenets of which he
unsn ervingly and tenaciously held.
Your committee aaks that this humble
hut sincere tribute be recorded In trie
minutes of the court over which our de-
ceased brother presided and that a copy
of the same be presented to each of the
other ccurts of record in this county and
to the court of civil appeals of the First
supreme Judicial district with the request
that the same be spread upon the minutes
of those courts. '
Ve further recommend that the chair-
man of this meeting do appoint a suffi-
cient number of committees composed of
three members each to make the presen-
tation above suggested and that all courts
of this county do stand adjourned until
Wednesday April 26.
We further recommend that a copv of
this report dulv engrossed and attested by
the president and secretary of this meet

sincere sympathy for her and all her

THE ELECTRICAL EXHIBIT
Will Be Open to Public Thursday
Morning..
A visit to the Auditorium will Indicate
the Importance of the exhibit of electric
and gas appliances which will be opened
to the public Thursday morning when the
electrical and gas convention opens Its
annual session.
Carpenters and electricians have been
busy for several days erecting handsome
compartments and wiring them. All the
exhibits will be "alive" high power wires
having been strung In the Auditorium for
the purpose of hooking them onto the
exhibits.
It Is the expectation that this will be
the biggest convention of these lines ever
held in point of attendance while as to
the exhibit It will be the finest thing of
the kind ever attempted tn the South. "
The jolly Jovlans will be a distinct fea-
ture of the convention. It is the ex-
pectation that the town will be overrun
with little red devils. There will be a
rejuvenation and an Illuminated parade
during one of the nights of the stay of tha
visitors.
The business sessions will be Important
and. there will be an excellent social pro-
gram. Including a trip to the San Jacinto
battlefield.

Cone Johnson Will Take Stump on
May 15.
The Houston delegates to the prohibition-
rally at Waco last week returned
to Houston yesterday morning. Secre-
tary Tom Swope was enthusiastic over
the attendance stating that he had built
his hopes high but even at that was sur-
prised at the attendance and enthusiasm.
He was especially enthusiastic over the
address of Father Patrick J. Murphy who
during the course of his address stated
that fully 8000 Catholic priests In the
United States were for prohibition and
that It was a mistake that Catholics aa
a rule or the Catholic church are against
prohibition. '
While it was regretted that Cone John-
son was not in attendance he stated ha
was greatly gratified upon returning
home to find a letter from that gentle-
man tn which he stated that ne would
be ready to take the stump for 8tatewida
prohibition on May IS.
