Rusk FFA hosts 1st FI A week o service Oct. 23*27
Rusk FFA hosted its first FFA
week of service from Oct. 23-27.
The FFA hosted multiple com-
munity service projects through-
out the week to assist the com-
munity. The chapter executive
committee set-up a community
service project for each day of
the week. On Monday, mem-
bers volunteered at the Rusk
Primary Campus by cleaning
and preparingthe campus’ small
agriculture facility. Students
removed an old greenhouse and
will replace it later this year.
They also prepared seed beds
and did general clean up.
On Tuesday, they hosted a
Scrap Metal for West project.
The West FFA agriculture
building was destroyed during
a fertilizer plant explosion last
spring. The Texas FFA Founda-
tion asked each FFA chapter to
make a donation to help build the
West FFA Chapter a temporary
agriculture building.
The Rusk FFA Executive Com-
mittee developed a plan to sell
scrap metal to generate a dona-
tionforthe West FFA. Rusk FFA
members loaded scrap metal to
generate more than $200 that
w ill be sent to the Texas FFA
Foundation for the West FFA.
On Wednesday, Rusk FFA
members volunteered at the
Rusk State Hospital. Members
worked throughout the day and
after school in general clean up
and in preparing and planting
several flower beds. On Thurs-
day, Rusk FFA members partici-
pated in a ca mpus clean-up day
at the high school campus and
assisted with the district clothes
closet. On Friday, members
worked to gather food for Opera-
tion H3 or Operation Helping
the Hungry at Homecoming.
Operation H3 was a joint project
between the Rusk FFA and the
Rusk Student Council. Each
campus in the school district
worked cooperatively to collect
more than 2,000 nonperishable
items for the community.
In addition, the Rusk FFA
entered the third year in their
Rusk FFA for A Cure Program.
The Rusk FFA donated $1,000
to the Cherokee County Relay
for Life and distributed Rusk
FFA for a Cure pens and water
bottles to the first 300 fans at the
Rusk Pink Out Game.
