Club provides camaraderie, trips
for local snow-skiing enthusiasts

After a brief respite for the group,
members of the newly-renamed DFW
Ski Club will be traveling to the slopes
again this season, spreading gay merri-
The DFW Ski Club began as the Oak
Lawn Ski Club in the late 1980's. It
began with a group of friends interest-
ed in taking ski trips together. "That is
how the original dub began," remem-
bers public relations officer Rich Dews,
"as friends who had a common interest
The original group formed around
interest in attending the Aspen Gay and
Lesbian Ski Week, which is touted as
the largest and longest-running gay
and lesbian winter event in the world.
This year marks the 21st year of the
annual celebration and should include
over 5,000 participants for skiing, snow
boarding, dancing, and a film festival.
Membership in the local club is open
to anyone interested in skiing with
other gays and lesbians. The group
includes some people from outside of
the area, and even the state.
"There is a guy in Oklahoma who
has gone with us several times before,"
noted Dews. The lack of a gay ski club
in Houston has brought participants
TEAM DALLAS AQUATICS —
Team Dallas Aquatics participated in the International
Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Championships in San Diego
recently, where the club finished 11th among 40 teams.
