William A. "Billy" Hathaway, 37, an
entertainer and nightclub employee,
died on March 6, 1997 'after being
attacked in his Dallas residence.
He worked as a bartender and door
employee at Jugs for the past several
years, and previously worked at other
gay nightclubs in Dallas, including The
Landing. Under the stage name of
Leslie Dumont, he performed as a
Billy Hathaway

Over Texas, a non-profit organization
that raises money for various AIDS ser-
vice organizations and gay and lesbian
community causes.
He will be remembered for his sharp
tongue and generous heart.
He is survived by his mother and
step-father, Virginia and Hugh Kane;
three sisters, Nancy, Peggy and Cindy;
a brother, Earl; and his adopted family
in Dallas, including Joe Elliott, Yolanda
Jones, Candy Cave, Connie McLain, Bill
Lindsey, Michael Champion, Bill and
Iola Cave, Alyce Schweitzer, Sarah
Gaylord, Theresa Farrell, Windy
Churitch, his co-workers at Jugs and
the cast and crew of Glitz-N-Glitter.
A memorial service was held on
Sunday, March 9, at Jugs.
Bob Strange, 78, owner of some of
the original gay clubs and businesses in
Dallas, passed away in Dallas on
Saturday, March 1, 1997.
A native of Greenville, he became
one of Dallas' most colorful characters.
He began operating gay clubs in the
.early 1960s with the Villa Fontana and
continuing on through the 1970s with
the Silver Dollar, Bon Soir, the Bachelor
Quarters Baths, The Landing, the D-III
and Dimension III and Emporium
Clothing Store. He will be remembered
for his sense of humor and generosity.
A celebration of his life will be held
at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 16 in the
back bar at Zippers, 3333 N. Fitzhugh.
All of Bob's friends are invited to
attend.
Jack R. Presley, 45, co-founder of a
local theater company, died on
February 24, 1997 of complications of
AIDS.
He was a long-time hotel executive,
but his passion was the theater. He was
an actor at theaters in Dallas and
Houston, and co-founded Moonstruck
Theatre Company of Dallas.
A memorial service and interment
were held at Greenwood Cemetery in
Fort Worth. T
