Speak On Campus
Texas Senator Barbara Jordon,
first Negro woman senator to
serve in the Texas Senate, will
speak at 7:30 PM Thursday in the
B-E Auditorium.
Senator Jordon will speak on
"Social Changes Affecting the Per-
formance of Public Officials."
She is the first Negro to pre-
side over a Texas Senate and the
first Negro woman to preside over
a state senate in the United
States.
SHE WAS FIRST elected to the
senate in 1966 and ran unapposed
for re-election to the four-year
term in 1969.
Senator Jordon was selected by
the UPI in 1967 as one of the top
10 most influential women in Tex-
as. She was appointed Chairman
of the Senate Urban Affairs Study
Committee for the 1969-70 interim.
She was appointed by Lt Gov
Ben Barnes to the Environmental
Health Committee of the Council
of State Governments, Southern
Conference, in 1970.
SHE IS ALSO a member of the
Penal Servitude Committee, Lunar
Landing Commission and Welfare
Reform Committee for the 1969-70
interim.

will speak at 7:30 PM Thursday
in the Business-Economics Audi-
torium. Senator Jordan is the
first Negro woman senator to
serve in the Texas Senate. She
will speak on the "Societal
Changes Affecting the Perform-
ance of Public Officials." Her
appearance is sponsored by the
Professional Club, a student or-
ganization within the department
of health and physical education
for women. The public is invited
to attend.

Professional Club, a student
organization within the
department of Health and
Physical Education for Women.
Miss Bonnie Johnson, sponsor
of the club, urged those wishing
to hear Sen. Jordan to come
early. There is generally a
shortage of seats for these
events, she said.
