Rescuing Texas History, 2014

Rescuing Texas History collects photographs, newspaper articles, letters, postcards, and other historical materials from across the state and beyond to document and preserve the rich history of the state.

Pearce Civil War

Pearce Civil War is a collection of letters and documents written by Texas soldiers and/or pertaining to the history of Texas at the time of the Civil War. These documents illustrate the war through the first-hand accounts of Texas soldiers as they experienced it as well as the first-hand accounts by wives and civilians of life on the Texas home front. Some of the letters and documents were created after the war, thus documenting post-war life in Texas. These documents provide a crucial window into a portion of both Texas and Civil War history that is lesser-known but vital to a complete understanding of both. They are all the more significant for their first-person perspective and the personal stories they reveal; everyday life did not stop during the war and this collection gives students and scholars a glimpse into the lives of Texas soldiers and their families during one of the most turbulent times in American history.
