The folovying rules on absences and
failures weer adopted last spring by I he
Faculty to become effective this Fall:
FACULTY REGULATIONS CONCERN
ING ABSENCES AND FAILURES
ABSENCES
J
(1) A student incurring in excess of
four absences from a major or two from
a minor must offer acceptable excuses
for each absence or be dropped from
the class in which such an excess occurs,!
and can not bo reinstated during that
term.
(2) Any student incurring a total of i
thirty (30) absences in all classes shall j
have his credit for the term in which j
absences accur reduced by one minor I
for each thirty absences.
(3) Three tardies are to be counted|
as equivalent to one absence.
(4 j A student incurring in excess of j
four absences from chapel during any
term must offer acceptable excuses fori
each excess absence or be dropped from i
the roll of students and cannot be rein j
stated during that term. ]
(5) Excuses in case of sickness must J
bo signed by a physician, acceptable to j
the University, or by some one in an j
thorite at the dormitories; in all other
eases signed by the Dean of the Facul-
ty-
(6) If a student is late in complet-
ing his registration each absence due to
this cause shall be counted against him
and ho shall be charged an additional
fee of $3.00.
FAILURES
(1) A student failing to make a cred
it, of at least one major shall be dropped
from tho roll and cannot be reinstated
during the term immediately succeed-
ing such failure. A student, dropped
twice under this rule will not be en-
titled to re-admission at any time.
(2) A student making a credit of not
more than one major will be allowed to,
register for the term next following on-
ly on probation and will be dropped
either at the mid-term or at the end of
the term, if his work does not show
substantial improvement.
(3) Students dropped under the above
rule will not be allowed to stand exam-
inations to remove failures, but may be
•readmitted to college at the beginning
of any term eveept the term immediate-
ly* following this failure. In this con-
nection the summer quarter is counted
as pne full college term.
(4) A student dropped under this rule
may take correspondence work, provid-
ed he takbs it at his home.
(5) A student who has been dropped
from the roll of another institution be-
cause of failure t& make the required
scholastic grade will not be permitted
to enter Southwestern University dur-
ing the term immediately succeeding

Memorandum to the Faculty:
Due to the fact that a number of in-
structors Indicated that the report on
failing students which was made on
October 18th was to a groat extent ‘an
estimate,” it has been decided that an-
other report will be called for Saturday,
October 30th, which should give the
standing of* the student for the six
weeks' work.
If possible, please give probable cause
of failure.

presented at the Fine Arts Recital Hall
at 3:30 by the local chapter of the
American Association of University
Women.
Mrs. Urowell is author of the collec-
tion of poems called “White Fire”which
has already become vc-y popular here.
This volume will be featured on her
part of the program. She contributes
to Good Housekeeping, Delineator, Mc-
Call's, Scribners, Windsor, Cassell’s
Woman’s Pictorial, Holland's, and vari-
ous lesser magazines using pbetry.
Assisting Mrs. Crowell will be her
husband, who has gained fame as a
humorist. He is a sportsman and a
writer, and adds a very clever and re-
laxing to idi to the program.
The Crowells are Dalian people and
are fast gaining national renown. They
are in demand constantly, and South-
western is most fortunate in having
them here.
Tickets for the jrecital may be se-
cured at The Toggery and at the Bur-
sar’s office at the University.

them in the back of the church. A most
interesting lesson was enjoyed. It was
in the form of a forum discussion, the
subject being “Personality,” led by
Janice Goodson, Eugenia Campbell,
Johnnie Marie Brooks, and Christine
