Two are injured when
gas pressure line is cut
By Carolyn Richards
South Jetty reporter
Tragedy was averted Wednesday
morning. July 30, when a gas line
was cut by contractors doing work
for Century Telephone.’
The contractor's underground
boring cut a two inch pressure line
at llth Street and Avenue G, ac-
cording to city manager Tom
Brooks.
Two city employees, Crockett
Moreno and Wes Newman, were
injured slightly and hospitalized
during the gas line repair Moreno
was not released to return to work
until Wednesday. Aug 6 Newman
was only treated and released at
Bay Area Medical Center in (’orpus
Christie
Both injuries were from inhaling
gas.
Since drivers on 11 ih Street had a
stop sign at Avenue G, they were
directed around the intersection.
Brooks said.
Traffic was diverted several times
during the day as attempts were
made to cap the line. The cap seal
blew off several times. Brooks said,
causing another attempt to seal it
off and another diversion of traffic.
“We just thought it was prudent
to direct people around the inter-
section.” Brooks said.
He said there was no imminent
danger ol explosion at any time
