LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON
Bear Brothers and Sisters,
Seems as though I talked myself into
wrifcing again, so here I go. However,
the few remarks that I am making
are off the record and are not neees-
sarily the views of our membership
but rather thoughts and observations
of my own.
We háve heard and read a lot lately
about a big bank going broke, and a
lot of insurance stoc-k being bought and
■sold, at mostly large fast profits. It
probably wouid not háve caught ev-
eryonets interest nearly as much, if
it hadn’t been for so many high statě
and local officials being involved. On
the other hand, we could be proud of
such an intelligent group of elected
business people handling our govern-
ment business. But, if they ean make
such fast profits for themselves, would-
n’t it be nice if they wouid employ their
talents to make a little more money
for our different brancb.es of govern-
ment, for which they were elected?
Then they wouldnT háve to be asking
Wednesday, September % 197Í
for more and more tax money. One
thing intrigues me though: it must
háve taken a lot of clear thinking and
courage to invest in such personál
speculation, and yet when it came time
to answer questions before investigat-
ing committees, no one seemed to re-
call too ciearly just what did happen.
They burst a good cookie jar though.
My mother ušed to say: “A dog ne-ver
bites his own tail unless he is after a
ílea.”
Another situation and even closer
to home is the unfortunate incident
in our Houston Independent School
District. The firing of a school super-
intendent by a divided schoq|board, at
.the time of school openingk This cer-
tainly, to, my way of thinking, is a
detriment to the welfare of our cílil-
drerťs thinking and learning. Especial-
ly, since it was so very unpopular with
so many youngsters as well as adults
to háve the superintendent reinoved
from office at this time.
Corning events at Lodge 88 — Satur-
day, September 11, we řiave a dance to
Ray Jurecka of Weimar, can’t go wrong
there. Sunday, September 12, we háve
the State Royalty; speciál braised beef
,chimér will be served from 11 a.m. on,
home prepared German-style potato
salad, slaw, peach, coffee or tea with
the dinner. There will also be a choice
of homemade pastry, so sisters, please
bake some type of pastry. It will be
greatly appreciated. Registration and
royalty ceremonies will follow, with a
íree dance to choice music to top it off.
Saturday, September 18, we will háve
the Vrazcls with us for a big polka
dance.
News and comments — The A. J.
Zaleskys had a welcome back number
piayed for them at the Joe Patek
dance. Bili and Mareeil Malak cele-
bra.ted their ?? anniversary. Rose Kre-
jčí of California visited with the
Prankie Semberas and took in the
Joe Patek dance. Mr. Albert and Helen
Brandesky and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kos-
arek of Corpus Christi enjoyed the
dance with the Robert Smajstťlas.
Brother Joe and Sister Mary Fusig
proudly showed these folks around. By
ithe way, Joe and Mary Fusig and the
King Hegwood family took a side trip
from the State YAB at Temple, by go-
ing to Dallas and Six Flags. I can see
Bister Fusig rushing from one wild
ríde to another. Enroute to Dallas, they
stopped at good old West, Texas, on
Monday afternoon and visited at the
Čechoslovák Publishing Co., and toured
