come to the lodge meeting for initia-
tion and would feel more inclined to
at.tend.
Let ns point out that it is on the
lodge level that the principles of the
Society are put into practiee, and that
the utmost attention be paid to or.der,
disciplině and respect for all the So-
ciety stands for. It is at these meet-
ings that all members, new and old
alike, gain their impressions of the
Society, which impressions govern
their future activities as members of
the SPJST.

Friendship is a vory precious thing
and we should all consider it like a
garden which needs constant atfention,
otherwise it can wither and CUe. Here
is a little poem which we thin-k is rath-
er nice regarding friendship, and we
would like to print it herc for you. It is
simply entitled “Who Is a Friend?”
Iťs not always one who lives nearest,
Oř one who we think w,e know,
For o i ten tliey disappoint us —
Experience has tanght us so.
Our friends are the ones we depend
on
To ba-ck up the words they say,
And the ones who nevěr fail us
When hard .luck comes our way.
They forgive and forget if we ask
them;
Their friendship’s a trcasure untold.
And to us it is far more precious
Than the wealth of silver and gold.

In a řečení ar ti cle, Milici* Upton,
president of Beloit College, expresaed
my feelings concerning our present so-
ciety; hopefully they are worth passing
on to you for your consideration.
“I háve just about reached the end
of my tolerance for the way our so-
ciety now seems to háve sympathetic
concern only for the mis fit, the . per-
vert, the drug addict, the drifter, the
chronic eriminal, the underachiever.
It seems to me wc háve iosfc touch with
reality and become warped in our at-
tachments. I feel it is time for some-
one like me to stand up and say, in
short, Tm for the upperdog'*
