Saturday, June 30th we attended
the very nice and elegant 50th
Anniversary Supper and Dance of
Brother Cyrill (Sid) and Sister
Justine Pokladník at the Catholic
Czech Club in Dallas. It was a very
nice evening enjoyed by many, many
SPJST friends and others. So, once
again, we say: “Happy 50th
Anniversary Sid and Justine!” May
there be many more!

Sunday, July lst. Maxine and
Terry attended the 95th Birthday
celebration of Brother J. M.
Skrabanek in Skrabanek Park in
Danbury, TX and yours truly
attended the District III YAD at
Lodge No. 92 in Ft. Worth, TX. To
Brother Skrabanek: “Happy 95th
Mr. Joe and on to 100 and more!”
Your editor is certain he speaks for
our entire SPJST Society in both
cases.
The District III YAD was well
attended considering that this is
vacation time, etc. and Lodge Nové
Květy No. 35, once again, proved
they always support their
youth —They chartered a bus as
usual with a large group of adult
members present. District III Youth
Counselor Bessie Petr will give you
the results.

URGENT
NOTICE
Sister K. Wokaty of Victoria
called this editor long distance and
asked assistance with the following:
Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Marcella
Trubka are a couple of people from
Czechoslovakia living and
productively working in Victoria.
Now the U.S. Immigration
Service is trying to deport them be-
cause, of the two people who
sponsored them, one is dead and the
other, Adolph Motal, has been trans-
ferred by his company. Marcella’s
maiden name was Smát and she was
adopted by the Valenta family.
They left Czechoslovakia in 1968-69
to Austria to Nuremburg for 2 years
and then Australia paid their way
to that country. In 1976 they paid
their way to Texas after they had
heard so much about our State.
Sister Wokaty stated that the two
they are seeking for help are: Emily
Fiala and —— Kratochvil (one is an
aunt and the other a niece).
Anyone knowing them or their
whereabouts please contact: Mrs. K.
Wokaty, 2102 N. Jecker, Victoria,
TX 77901. Telephone 1-512-575-1816.
Your editor is certain that Sister
Wokaty and the Trubkas would
appreciate it very much!

With the grass growing thicker
every day, this is the time of the
year when many homeowners think
of hiring a lawn-care Service.
CHOOSING A LAWN SERVICE.
Anyone considering such a step
should realize that it won’t free him
or her entirely from yard work,
cautions the Council of Better
Business Bureaus.
Treatments. What a lawn Service
does in most areas is treat a yard
four or five times a season. It
reseeds the lawn, fertilizes and
sprays to kill weeds and pests. For
additional fees, other treatments,
such as soil aeratíon and rolling to
smooth the turf, are often available.
Analysis. Most knowledgeable
companies will provide you with a
lawn analysis before you contract
for their Services. Included in the
analysis: The types of grass, weeds
and insects present, the
recommended treatment and the
estimated cost.
References. Before hiring a
Service, také time to make sure the
recommended work really needs to
be doně and that the firm you choose
knows what it is doing. That isn’t
always the čase. Get several
estimates. Find out how long the
companies háve operated in your
area. Seek references —and check
them. Ask what guarantees are
provided.
Mowing Tips. In any čase, the
homeowner is still responsible for
watering and eutting the lawn. For
maximum benefit, keep your mower
blades sharp and mow frequently
enough so that you nevěr remove
more than one third of your lawn’s
height in a single eutting.

The Treasury Department is
urging recipients of government
checks to háve the checks deposited
directly into their bank accounts by
electronic fund transfer. Direct
deposit eliminates the chance of a
check’s being lost or stolen, and it
reduces the cost of printing and
Processing the checks. For details,
write: Direct Deposit Marketing,
Treasury Department, Annex 1,
Washington, D.C. 20226.
Recipients of Sociál Security
payments should find out whether
their benefits are included as part of
their adjusted gross income under
the income-tax laws of the states
where they reside. So far, 11 states
háve exempted in federal adjusted
gross income. They are: Deleware,
Hawaii, Indiana, New York,
Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin,
Idaho, Maine, New Mexico and
South Carolina. Minnesota has also
provided some relief. Most other
states use federal adjusted gross
income —which includes Sociál
Security benefits —as a state-tax
base.
You can deduct from your taxable
income the points you pay to get a
mortgage if you, the buyer, pay
them solely from your own funds for
the use of the money and not for
specific Services, according to
Manufacturers Hanover Trust. You
bank or accountant can telí you
whether or not you meet these
requirements, but chances are that
you do. And it can be a big tax break:
If you pay two points on an $80,000
mortgage, thaťs a $1,600 deduction
on your 1984 return.
