Lodge No. 54, West
The second quarterly meeting of
1989 will be heid Friday, June 16th at 7
p.m. at Lone Star Halí in West.
Ladies are asked to bring a dessert to
add to a meal which will be furnished
by the lodge.
Aíl members are asked to make a
conscious effort to attend this meeting
and také part in the activities of the
lodge and share in the fellowship.
Lodge No. 87, Temple
SPJST Lodge No. 87 honored their
50 - year members at the meeting held
Friday evening, May 12íh at the lodge
haíl on Middle Road at 6:30 p.m.
President Navrátil called the
meeting to order. Flag Bearer Ed
Reisner led the lodge in reciting the
Pledge of Allegiance. Deceased
members were remembered in silent
A motion was made and seconded to
dispense with the business meeting.
Dorothy Chervenka was called on to
give the blessing.
A covered dish meal was served to
members and guests.
Following the meal guests were
introduced as follows: President
Howard Leshikar and wife, Mary,
from State Headquarters, also Sidney
Kacir and wife, Dorothy and son, Dan
Fifty - year members and guests (and
members from each family) are: Betty
Jane Engbrock and husband, Gene;
daughter, Carla Kacir and husband,
Kýle and sons, Kevin and Justin; also
daughter, Pam Shumate and daughter,
Viola Evelyn Ježek (50 - year
member) and husband Clarence;
daughter, Nancy Manoogian; son,
Eric Ježek and wife, Fancy and their
baby daughter, Erin.
Lillie Emma McDonald and son,
Georgia Navrátil and husband,
Edwin J. Tyroch.
A ceremony conducted by Supreme
Lodge President Howard Leshikar
presented the pins to fifty - year
members. He was assisted by Dorothy
President Leshikar spoke to the
lodge and fifty - year members.
Lodge 87 President Ladis Navrátil
expressed his thanks to committees
helping in this project as follows: Ed
Reisner and Lad Zatopek (barbecue),
George and Millie Schilier, Mary
Zatopek, Florence Reisner, Jerry
Valchar, Vlasta Valchar, all of the
members who brought covered dishes;
the meal was delicious and enjoyed by
all and all of the ladies helping with
serving the meal.
Each fifty - year member received a
corsage (when they arrived) with a
silver ribbon with the number 50 years

We enjoyed visiting with all
members and guests and extend an
invitation to each of you to visit and
attend the meetings any time.

Our next meeting will be held Friday
evening, June 9th at 7:30 p.m.
The lodge would like to express
deepest sympathy to Vlasta Coufal in
the loss of her sister, Mary Rose
(Kalenda) Chaloupka of Crowley,

Lidmiia Mikeska, age 96.
Lodge No. 97, Placedo
Honors Member On
The Placedo SPJST Lodge No. 97
officers held a presentation ceremony
for Mrs. Lidmiia Mikeska on April 10,
1989 at the Twin Pines Nursing Home.
President Dorothy Elsik presented her
with a certificate of appreciation and a
check, in full payment, of her life
insurance policy because on March 22,
1989 she has lived to the grand age of
96 years, which is living beyond the
maturity dáte of her policy.
Officers present were President
Dorothy Elsik, Vice President Dorothy
Fuzzell and Secretary Dennis Vaněk;
also present were her daughter,
Marjorie Johnston; Donna Migl, a
member, and guest, Lester Fuzzell.
Sister Mikeska has been a member
of SPJST Lodge No. 97 of Placedo
since December 14, 1913. Mrs.
Mikeska was born in Meeks, Bell
County, Texas on March 22, 1893. She
married Joe P. Mikeska. They had
three children. They lived in Six Mile,
Texas in Calhoun County for several
years. Then they moved to Placedo,
Texas in 1931; then moving to
Victoria, Texas in 1953. She has lived
in the nursing home since 1983, after
she was unable to také care of herself
We would like to acknowledge
receiving the complimentary and thank
you notes from Fifty - year members,
Viola Evelyn (Mrs. Clarence) Ježek
and Lillie Emma McDonald.

enjoyable summer and all of your days
Her husband passed away August
25, 1961; her son, Joe, Jr. passed away
July 4, 1984.
We are very proud of Mrs. Mikeska
and the grand age she has attained and
wish her many more years.

The regular quarterly meeting of
Lodge No. 160 will be held on June 11,
1989 at 2 p.m. at the Wall Fire Halí.

News From Lodge
Rozkvět No. 172,
The May monthly meeting of our
lodge was opened by President Alvin
Sefcik at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday,
May 24th. All officers and committee
persons were present.
Correspondence from the Supreme
Lodge and the insurance agency
handling our liquor liability was
received and read to our members.
Reports given by officers and
chairpersons were read and, as usual,
all were very encouraging.
Old and new business topics were
taken care of in the usual efficient and
official proceduře. The major topič
discussed was the repair of the lodge
roof. ít is hoped this subject will not be
discussed for at least five years.
Workers’ Day is Monday, June 5th
starting at 8 a.m. and the big project
will be refinishing our lodge floor.
A covered dish dinner was held prior
to our meeting which was attended by
48 members, several guests and 7
youth members. District V Director
Louis Hanuš addressed the
membership and informed our lodge
of Supreme Lodge activities.
As usual, our Saturday night daiices
are drawing large attendance and ihe
Entertainment Committee is busy
hiring and booking well - known bands
Our Fraternal Activities
Coordinator írving Theiss announced
and explained our plans to háve a
Benefit Dance Day on August 13th in
honor of M.A.R.K. (Making A
Remarkable Kommitment). This
organization was started by the parents
of Mark Kilroy and goes to combat
