Big Lake Elementary School News . . .
Grade 4A
We are working hard to end our
first six weeks work In fine shape.
We are having our first tests of the
year and are finding them not so
hard.
Jo Ann McReynolds visited the
State Fair In Dallas last week end.
Aurelia Sessions has been ill the
last two days. We hope she Is back
in school soon, as we miss her very
much.
In geography we are getting
ready to return home from the
Amazon Basin. Everyone has en-
joyed the interesting people, plants
and animals; but think our next
trip to visit the Eskimos will be fun.
At least it won’t be so hot.
Everyone in 4A will be glad when
Mrs. Horton returns to school. We
have missed her every day.
Grade 4B
In arithmetic we have been
learning more about subtracting
and we have enjoyed learning more
about the Amazon River and Basin

We are taking our six weeks tests.
We have missed Mrs. Horton, our
teacher, who has been sick and we
look forward to her being back
with us next week.

of our school work—examinations.
Each pupil is hoping to make that
prize grade—an A.

weeks ago has re-entered.

Last week Mrs. Coates was our
teacher. We thought she was quite
different from Mrs. Phy. In geo-
graphy we studied three parts,
they were "On the Western Plains",
“California and Qold”, and "Win-
ning the Oregon Country". They
were all very Interesting. We liked
Mrs. Coates very much, but were
glad when Mrs. Phy came back. It
is six weeks test week and we are
having a hard time getting caught
up In our geography work books.
In music some of the people or-
dered some horns and they are
hoping that they will come In very
soon. We are going to have a music
test today and we hope It will not
be too hard.
Yesterday Miss Holman, the *-H
teacher was here and most of the
girls of the 4th, 5th and 8th were
there. We had 48 girls In all. The
girls had a good time because she
made some different kinds of
drinks for us to taste. They were
very good, too. The 4-H meets two
times a month. They are the first
and third Tuesday of each month.
We think most of the girls will like
It. Only three girls out of 5A did

to have Fidel Puentes back In our

This is six weeks test week and
everyone Is working a little harder
than usual. Only one In our class
has made one hundred on all the
spelling lessons this six weeks, and
she is Verlls Branch.
Each week we elect a good citizen
for the week. This week Jimmy De
Lay Is our good citizen.

We had a special treat this Mon-
day morning. We are so happy to
have Mary Lou McFadden back in
school with us. We are glad to have
our two new classmates. Welcome
to 6A, Donna Smith and Maxine

cil election last Friday. The follow-
ing officers were elected for Octo-
ber: president, Harold Doyle; vice-
president, Kenn Hays; secretary.
Priscilla Livingston.
Six A has had a lot of fun making
belts. When you see the girls wear-
ing these pretty wool belts of many
colors you would hardly believe
they were made on four or five
sticks of macaroni.
We are still digging up early new*
about Reagan County. It was very
interesting to learn that the first
telephone in Big Lake was one sus-
pended from the branch of a mea-
quite tree.
Class reporters—Mildred Loftln
and Richard Logan.

Our class Is really getting started
, into real work. Some of us are hav-
ing a little trouble learning how to
'do and find answers for ourselvea.
But find it quite in te ref ting that It
can be done.
Our new magazine rack, for our
reading corner, has been finished.
We sanded and varnished it after
Mr. Rutherford did the nailing.
Several of us get magazines and we
are bringing them to school to
share with others
After our student council meet-
ing last Friday, Linda Jo surprised
