The mummy mobile
Whom do you call
when you need to trans-
port a body from one
place to another? What
about a 2700-year-old
body?
It isn’t a problem that
arises very often, but
when Houston’s
Museum of Natural
Sciences needed to
deliver an Egyptian
mummy to the Univer-
sity of Houston for
research, family mem-
bers of Earthman
Funeral Directors
volunteered to transport
the remains in a hearse.
The precious and
fragile cargo was
removed from its
sarcophagus (still on
display at the museum)
and wrapped in plastic
by museum curators to
protect it from humidity.
The Earthman hearse,
driven by Bob Kainer, a
long-time employee of
the family-owned com-
pany, arrived at the back
door of the museum at
precisely 8:30 a.m., as
Bazaar
booths
available
There are booths
available for merchants
and craftsmen to show-
case and sell their wares
in “The Bazaar" during
the West University
Elementary School
Carnival.
The Carnival will be
on Saturday, October 24
from 11 a.m. to4 p.m. at
West University
Elementary School. All
those interested should
immediately make
reservations by contac-
ting Susan Evans
664-8070 or Patty
Larkin, 432-1722.
Egyptian mummy gets a
way to Univ. of Houston,
planned. Kainer, along
with Bobby Earthman,
loaded the mummy,
named Anh-Hr-H3CPJ,
on a gurney and
wheeled him through
the maze-like corridors
of the museum, into the
sunlight, perhaps for the
first time in centuries.
The mummy of a man,
presumably a tax
ride in a hearse on the
collector, was discove-
red around 1890 and
donated to the Museum
of Natural Sciences by
Texas A&M University
Museum when that
facility closed 15 years
ago. CAT (Computer
Axial Tomography
imaging) scans will be
used to determine what
is inside the mummy’s
wrappings, without
damaging the remains.
Technical services are
being donated by UH.
When asked by a
Reporter if this was his
most unusual client to
date, Bobby Earthman
replied, "He’s definitely
our oldest client."
Bobby should know: he
has the historical pers-
pective of being the
fourth generation of his
family to enter the
funeral profession. His
father is Robert L.
Earthman, vice pres-
ident of the Texas
Association of Funeral
Directors.
Earthman Funeral
Directors, founded in
1889 (about the time
that the mummy was
discovered), is the
oldest and largest family
owned and operated
funeral firm in Houston.

“The last place I wanted
to spend my money...
.. .was in a dentist’s office.
Since I don’t make a lot of
money, when a friend told me
that Southern Dental does
great work without charging
you an arm and a leg, we
decided to give ’em a try.
After the free exam and x-rays,
they told us about the care we
needed and what it would cost.
Since I’ve got dental insurance and good credit,
Southern Dental hilled my insurance company and
let us finance the difference between our coverage
and the cost of the work they’re doing.
Now there are two worries I don’t have anymore—-giving
my family the dental care they need ... and paying for it!”
The pxam and x-rays are free! .Liii
