Bob Gay III, son of
Moppy and Bob Gay.
died recently after a
long illness, of kidney
failure. Moppy and Bob
took his ashes to South
Padre where he and wife
Laurie had lived. They
rented a 36-foot offshore
deep sea fishing boat
and went out into the
open ocean. It was a
beautiful day and the
water was clear as a
bell. Laurie read a
prayer, Moppy gave the
benediction, then Bob
and son Steve sprinkled
the ashes into the clear
blue water....    A
memorial fund    was
established at    the
Bellaire City Library in
his memory. Any one

CONGRATULATIONS
to Bellaire’s Det. Don
McCarver    and    wife
Sylvia on the birth of
Sean Kent on June 29.
Sean weighed in at 8
pounds 9 ounces, 20
inches long.
A belated Forty-eighth
Anniversary to Bert and
Frances Bates. On July
10, 1939 Bert carried his
bride over the threshold
of their new home and
they are there, yet.
Plans for a honeymoon
to Galveston had to be
cancelled, because the
rains came and brought
much flooding.

Nashville, Tn., to attend
Tops International Re-
cognition Days. Three
from Bellaire myself,
Mary Dean and Oralla
Perez; two from Meyer-
land, Leah Schiff (Sec.)
and Vivian Scallan (our
leader). Stopped in
historical Natchez, Ms.,
at our first Bed-Break-
fast place-Pleasant Hill
circa 1835, owned by
native Texan, Martha
H. Koon, a delightful
lady who knows her
history. Home and
grounds gave you the
feeling of stepping back
in time...Highlight of

William Pitkin, Emmy
Award winner as set
designer, is in Houston,
where his sets for
‘‘GONDOLIER’’ will be
used at Wortham Center
for the Gilbert and
Sullivan Society. Mr.
Pitkin is a life-long
friend of Moppy and
Bob Gay and spent one
day with them. They
then attended the dress
rehearsal for the mu-
sical.

times of upcoming
events as well as City
Council and Advisory
Board meetings.
Martha Gay, (born
and raised in Bellaire)
harpist, is playing at the
Chicago Renaissance
Festival (King Richard’s
Faire) for two months.
Martha was a protege of
Mildred Milligan, inter-
nationally famous
harpist and teacher.
Martha has been a
professional harpist for
10 years. After grad-
uating from Bell. Hi. she
attended Oxford Univer-
sity in Oxford, England,
where she bought her
first Irish Harp.

and Recreation Depart-
ment is offering a new
comprehensive program
for children in grades
K-5 to meet the child
care needs of families in
this area.
The program is desig-
ned to benefit both
parent and child. From
2:45 till 5:30 p.m. each
school day children
enrolled in the program
will be involved in a
variety of educational
and social learning
activities.
A partial listing of
activities    includes
educational classes,
exercise and nutrition,
study time and skills,
arts, supervised indoor
and outdoor games,
sports, snack and rest
time.
The program cost per
session for a Bellaire
resident is $400 and
$475 for non-residents.
Session I runs from Sep-
tember    through
December and Session II
runs from January
through May.
Enrollment    in
Bellaire’s Youth Enrich-
ment Program is limited
to 35 applicants. Parents
interested in reserving a
place for their children
beginning with the fall
session are encouraged
to enroll their child now.
