New logo wanted
A local chamber of
commerce is asking the
public to help change its
logo.
The Bellaire/
Southwest Houston
Chamber of Commerce
is having a mutest to
select the best logo to
represent the organiza-
tion.
The nonprofit
organization, whose
purpose is to promote
free enterprise and the
betterment of the com-
munity of the southwest
Houston area, recently
changed its name from
the Bellaire Chamber of
Commerce to the
Bellaire/Southwest
Houston Chamber of
Commerce.
The current logo
utilizes a large letter
“B” with the letter “C”
inside, representing
"Bellaire Chamber.”
The new logo should
be representative of the
‘' Bellaire/Southwest
Houston” area that the
chamber now services.
Entries will be judged
by members of the
Public Relations Com-
mittee, the Board of
Directors and chamber
staff on the basis of
effectiveness of com-
munication.
The winner will be
awarded a prize which is
yet to be announced.
Only one award will
be presented to the
individual, company or
organization designated
to receive credit.
All entries should be
mounted on matte
board; name of person/
company submitting the

All designs received
in the chamber office by
May 2 will be displayed
at the May 3 Bellaire
Arts and Crafts Festival,
sponsored by the
chamber and Houston
Civic Arts Association.
The festival will take
place on the Bellaire
Boulevard esplanade at
South Rice Avenue.
The Arts Council of Bellaire presented their Bellaire historical quilt to the city last weekend at the
Bellaire Quilt Show. The quilt will hang in the Bellaire City Hall atrium. Pictured l-r are: Rebecca Elrod,
Bellaire Mayor Sam McKinney, Carol Strlttmatter, Linda Dyson and Irving Wadler, the first president of
the Bellaire Arts Council.

following an extensive
career in the horticul-
tural field.

Crapemyrtle, has done
studies on the use of
sawdust and bark as
mulches and soil
ammendments and a
report on cultural re-
quirements of Ginger

the Houston Arboretum
and Botanical Society.

The spring meeting of
the Bellaire High School
PTO will be a program
presented by the staff of
Houston International
Hospital and will focus
on drug and alcohol
abuse.
Speakers will explore
the life of a teenager and
ask the following
questions: ‘‘Is it
normal?” “Is it drugs?”
‘‘Is it serious?"
The meeting is at 7:30
p.m. on Tuesday, April
29, in the Bellaire High
School Auditorium. The
school is at 5100 Maple
St., at the corner of
Maple and South Rice
Avenue. All interested
parents and teens are
urged to attend. The
meeting is free and open
to the public.
