Wildcat golf plays through
another shortened tourney
The Wildcats played through another
weather-shortened tournament Saturday
in Perryton. Due to various weather cancel-
lations, the ‘Cats have only completed one
tournament in its entirety heading into this
week’s opening round of district play.
Coach Hayden Merket and his team
couldn’t catch a break in Perryton. “The
weather has been as bad as I can remember,”
said coach Merket. “It’s like we’re stuck in
Canadian earned a fourth-place finish,
after the tournament was called through
nine-holes of play. Borger finished first with
Perryton and Spearman rounding out the
top three spots.
Dillon Reed shot a team-low 50 on the day,
Johnny Swires shot a 51 and Hunter Hast-
ings followed with a 52.
Coach Merket says Reed has logged the
most progress out on the greens this season.
“He and Hunter went to golf camp last sum-
mer and it has made a big difference,” said
Slavin Meyer swung-out a 54 and Connor
King shot a 64.
Maci Merket and Christian Webb will
join the boys for the district rounds in Bor-
ger. Webb just started playing golf this year
and works on her game on a daily basis.
“I look forward to her being really com-
petitive next year, she’s just a freshman,”
said coach Merket. Coach Merket expects
her to make the same type of strides that
Maci has made after one year of experience.
Maci is on par with the rest of her district
competition and has a chance to advance to
the regional round.
The Wildcats and Lady Cats teed-off their
opening round of district play Wednesday at
Borger. Full results of yesterday’s action can
