B.M.O.C.
Garlan MacPherson, 22 is a
B.M.O.C.
What’s a B.M.O.C.? Why, a
Big Man On Campus, of
course! This graduating
sophomore is a very sure of
what he wants and how he in-
tends to get it. Listening to
others speak of him, words like
“excellent”, “hard worker”, “a
good student”, “consistent”,
and even “popular” come up.
So, what gives a guy all the
right things on the ball? The
Ball.
Garlan has figured out that
he has the ability to pay his
way through college by playing
basketball. “Big deal” you say,
“lots of athletes dream of ‘mak-
ing it’ someday. Well, the dif-
ference with Garlan is, he sees
the game as a way of ‘making
it’ in school instead of seeing
school as a way of ‘making it’
in basketball.
IHi
Garlan MacPherson
“I’m using basketball to pay
the way. I guess I’d play pro
ball is the offer is right but, my
goals are always there.
“Some people think that St.
Philip’s is not the school to go
to lead to better things
(schools), but I think that if you
have talent, you can go
anywhere. They’ll find you!”
What he really aspires to be
is a drug enforcement officer -
not a NARC - but an interna-
tional drug smuggling expert!
Although he doesn’t know
anyone in the field to help him
get in, he intends to “Go For
It!” and make his dreams a
reality.
