Kreative Kids learn life

K learning CPR? Who
Am. would have ever
thought it? But it happened
on Oct. 27 at St. Luke’s
Episcopal Church during a
regular after-school session of
their Kreative Kids’ ministry.
Under the leadership of
Dianne. Stelly, owner of
ABC CPR. children in
grades kindergarten through
four learned how to respond
to medical emergencies
regarding heart attacks
and choking, even on “big
people.”
How awesome is that? The
children and their teachers
gave the experience a two
thumbs-up!
And how did this unusual
service come about?
The facilitator, Dianne
Stelly. formerly taught in the
Livingston school system.
Stelly said she decided to
become a CPR instructor so
she could certify the kids in
her high school classes.
Certification was not
available locally so she had
to drive Humble for her basic
(BLS) training.
The cost $45 and distance
was 120-mile round trip. For
instructor training, Stelley had
another commute.
The Woodlands fire
department training center was
75 miles each way, and it took
four trips. This cost $275.
In her own words: “There
was nothing closer and nothing
cheaper.”
After realizing that everyone
in Livingston who needed
the CPR training Would
have the same problem, she
slowly began investing in
a defibrillator, supplies and
mannequins.
Her plan to begin offering
this service in Livingston this
fall became a reality and the
Kreative Kids were enthralled Justin Holliman shows his newly learned CPR skills,
and enthusiastic about learning
how to help at home, school,
or anywhere in case of an
emergency.
Stelly is willing to come
to work locations or home
locations where five or more
need the class. The criteria is a
room or some sort of space.
She furnishes the CPR
mannequins — babies and
adults, and other tools for
teaching.
There is a small charge for
each participant. This and
other details may be worked
out by calling her at 936-933-
2302.
In addition to ABC CPR,
Stelly is also the branch
manager for Guardian
Healthcare in Livingston.

chest compressions on baby-size mannikins during a
lesson at Kreative Kids, an afterschool ministry of St.
Luke’s Episcopal Church in Livingston.
