VIC Contest
Students Take Honors At District Meet
By ELAINE BAKER
Over 200 students from Dis-
trict VI of the Vocational Indus-
trial Clubs met at Lubbock High
Friday and Saturday for the an-
nual district meet. Twenty-seven
chapters registered.
SKILL SPEED tests in 12 divi-
sions were held Friday evening.
Several LHS students served as
guides who directed the visitors
to the various business establish-
ments where contests were held.
Contestants were judged on their
skills in such fields as auto parts,
cabinet and mill work, electrical
trades and meat-cutting.
Saturday’s activities included
three contests — job application,
parliamentary procedure, chapter
conducting — and a business
meeting and presentation of
awards.
THOSE PLACING in the
events from VIC Chapter 10 were
Jackie Cates, first place in job
application; Robby Cox, second in
parliamentary procedure; the
chapter ceremonies team consist-
ing of Robby Cox, Walter Ste-
wart, Jackie Cates, Lyndell
Moore, Clarence Miller and Jay
9olt, second place.
Walter was also rated excel-
lent in job application and Cla-
rence was rated superior. The
chapter’s scrapbook placed third
in district competition.
DENNIE SPEARS, senior in
VIC Chapter 109, was named the
outstanding metal trades student
in the district. He will be eligible
to enter state competition because
he placed in skills speed, job ap-

Thursday students will be dis-
missed at 3:50 p.m. for Easter
holidays. Classes will resume on
Tuesday morning at 8:30.
The 1966-67 Sophomore Class
will visit LHS Monday. The pur-
pose of the visit is to acquaint
the students with the school and
its functions.
Beginning at 1:15 p.m. in the
auditorium an orientation will be
presented by the administrators
and the Student Council. At ap-
proximately 1:45 p.m. students
will report to homerooms for fur-
ther orientation and consultation
with their homeroom teachers.
Assigned teachers will then
lead the students on a tour of
the building. After the tour they
will return to their homerooms
and remain until dismissal at
3:50 p.m.

The Chapter placed fifth in the
ceremonies contest.
ENNIS DOCKERY received a
third place or very good rating
on student selected jobs.
Exhibits, which were set up
in the cafeteria by various chap-
ters, were open to the public
from 9:30 a.m. to the end of the
final session at 4 p.m.
MOST STUDENTS who plac-
ed in district competition will re-
present their chapters and LHS
at the state convention April 29
and 30.

Carolyn Turner was recently
elected as President of FHA for
next year.
OTHER OFFICERS include
Rita Evans, first vice - president;
Ileene Johnson, second vice-presi-
dent; and Sandra Hill, third vice-
president.
Sheree Quisenberry and Bar-
bara Benton were elected fourth
and fifth vice-presidents, respec-
tively.
CLAUDIA PATTERSON will
serve as recording secretary while
Mae Belle Riddle will serve as
corresponding secretary.
Still other officers are Sharon
Schafer, treasurer; Rhonda Tru-
ett, historian; and Nola Nickell,
parliamentarian.
SANDY REAT is in charge
of the annual FHA Rose Banquet
which is tomorrow night in the
Coronado Ballroom of the Stu-
dent Union Building from 6:30
to 8:30.
Dates are not required to the
semi-formal affair. At the ban-
quet new officers will be installed.
CAROLYN TURNER was the
voting delegate to the Area I
FHA meeting in Amarillo March
19.

Bill Cox, Community Ambas-
sador, spoke of his travels and
experiences in South America in
Y-Teens' at Tuesday’s meeting.
OFFICERS WERE also nom-
inated.

The TNT Chemistry Club re-
cently adopted a new constitu-
tion.
