This collections features 1,000 images from the 1968 HemisFair, "The Confluence of Civilizations in the Americas." The photographs and slides document the fair, from the construction of buildings to visits by important people such as Lyndon B. Johnson, Lady Bird Johnson, John Connally, and Henry B. Gonzalez. From April to October of 1968, over 6 million people visited the fair which brought international attention to San Antonio and Texas.

Description

Black and white photograph of two story brick building on South Street, San Antonio. It has long windows on both floors. On the right side of the building there are 3 windows on each level. There is a parking area on the right and behind the building with 3 cars visible. There are two metal trash cans sitting on a cement square toward the front right of the building. At the left side there are concrete stairs that go up and angle toward the back. There is a mature tree in the front of the building. There is some kind of sign on a wooden stake that is leaning in front of the stairs. The building is located in an area that was redeveloped because of HemisFair '68. Some of the 19th and early 20th century buildings in the area were preserved and others were demolished to make way for the fair.
