Take you heed or
this Aa sure as you
llvothoproducersare
the feeders and cloth-
iers of the world
And to think the mosquito is
toblame for it all
The most absurd thing we have
heard yet is the report that Koger
Q Mills is to be boomed for gov
ernor Thats carrying a joke too
far
The yellow fever scare is doing
a great work in getting Texas
towns cleaned up From every
direction comes the cry of clean-
up clean up and kill the mos-
quitoes
It is a matter of especial pride
jto the Herald that it lives among
a people who are such home lov-
ers and in whom the spirit of
civic pride is so strong We do
not believe there is a town in Texas
that has morepretty homes than
we have here in thisdittlo queen
city
Why has Palestine never gone
in to be a school center The city
is beautifully located for a school
town and is in a good territory
Good schools help to build towns
and elevate the moral tone Lets
go after a good college some of
these days
The Tyler commercial club has
appointed a fumigating commit-
tee composed of the bestbusiness
people to go after the smelling
spots Jn th attoggyr As yehave
fg pl P KiiSiil d
yieWpjo tne services
of such a committee we are not
exactly posted as to what it has to
do but hope it will do it just the
same for a town that needs a
fumigating committee must need
it bad
We hope our esteemed cotem
porary theDenison Daily Herald
will recover from the shock it
must have received Saturday
when Grayson county went so
overwhelmingly for prohibition
The Herald was so cock sure that
the county would go anti that we
had almost made up our minds
that it couldnt go any other way
We are wondering now how the
Herald could have been so far off
in its guess especially since it is
usually so correct in its findings
And too the Herald must have
been mistaken about prohibition
having been such a failure up
there The people evidently do
not agree with our namesakes
opinion
The Tyler Courier says Pales-
tine is the cleanest town in Texas
while Tyler is the filthiest While
the Courier has possibly used
rather extravagant language there
is no denying that Palestine is a
much cleaner town than most
towns but in some sections of the
city there is room for inprove
ment In some quarters the weeds
are allowed to grow most too
rank Since we have gotten the
reputation of being a spotless town
lets go it one better and make it
absolutely clean from corporation
line to corporation lino Pales-
tine is the city beautiful of East-
ern Texas Lets keep it sweet
Just a little more effort on this
Hue will accomplish the results
A kemakkable series of articles
entitled Fifty Years of Progress
in America is begun in tho cur-
rent Harpers Weekly with an
article telling of the development
of agriculture in this country
since 1850 an industry which
now provides food for eighty mil-
lions of people in the United
States and many more millions in

PALESTINE TEXAS JULY 31 1905
Europe The Secretary ofAgri
culture in his last annual report
saj8 Mr Hewes makes the state-
ment that all the gold dug from
all the mines of the earth since
the time of Columbus would not
bo enough to pay for the farm
products of the United States for
the years 1903 and 1904 He
points out further that agricul
tural progress is so rapid that the
products of 1904 are 42 per cent
greater than the total products
reported by the census of 1900
This wonderful story of progress
is graphically told by Mr Hewes
with the help of explanatory dia
grams The plain farmer man
as Uncle Travis Henderson
calls him is something of an
empire builder himself
MosTrpeople talk too much A
fellow disappeared a few days
ago in aTexasbwn and a body
at the undertaking establishment
was identified by a son as the
dead man The son ordered the
undertaker to fix the body up for
shipment to his home and or-
dered a good job done on it as he
was able to afford it It was done
and when the corpse was ready it
was carried to the depot in state
On arriving at the depot the son
thought he would open the coffin
and see how the body looked
when to his dismay the mouth
hadfallenopen arid a setoCIalse
mouth As the young mans
father did not have false teeth he
was compelled to tell the under-
taker that the body was not that
of his father and he would have
to leave it with him The under
taker loaded the corpse back on
the hearse and on getting it to his
rooms looked at it in a solemn
way and said in all earnestness
You fool if you had kept your
mouth shut you would have had
a decent burial It is a good
idea most always sometimes to
keep your mouth shut unless
you have something to say
