tinued Oct 14 The rural routes
have made it necessary to dis
continue several of the small
ioeuiaty poetoffices
The rba3 to fortune is uphill
aticlyoa have to pull a heavy load
every inch of the way It seldom
comes to the fellow who spends
his time loafing around the street
corners rolling cigarettes
Now thats just like a woman
A Wichita Kas woman filed
suit for divorce alleging she
could not live with her husband
The next day sho appeared to
have the case dismissed declaring
she could not live without him
The big circus will be here on
the 18 The election on the
sohool bond matter will take place
on the 18 The saloons will be
closed on that day That makes
a combination of circumstances
calculated to give some people
heart failure Such is the irony
of fate
Giye every encouragement to
those factories wo have and go
after others Cotton factories in
the south have proven a good in-
vestment The capital is here
sufficient to build a cotton factory
and nothing would be of greater
benefit to the town giving em-
ployment to men and women who
are forced to be idle many months
in the year
TO KEEP PEACE IN THE FAMILY
It is a pity that there cannot
be a class in giving up established
for tho benefit of those who are
contemplating matrimony A lit
tle instruction in selfdenial might
save a great deal of unsuccessful
experiment after marriage It
takes a long time for the average
man and woman to learn to con-
duct life on a givingup basis
One of the first things a mar-
ried man has to learn to give up
is tho habit of expressing his un-
reserved opinion on most subjects
That is unless his wife has had
a plainspoken father
Another thing ho gives up is
the impression that he is the mas-
ter in his own house He learns
there are places where he can not
smoke blinds that must not be

PALESTINE TEXAS SEPTEMBER 27 1905
IT IS TOO BAD
The Herald does not know
just who to blame but it is a la-
mentable fact that the streets of
Palestine today usually clean
are dirtier than they have been
for many a day and too when all
the surrounding country had been
invited to be our guests That is
too bad Tonight they should bo
swept and thoroughly washed that
another day of visitors will not
find them in such a fix This
should be attended to by all
means
If you dont see what you want
get up and go after it Advertise
Never prematurely kick a man
who is temporarily down for
verily he may rise again
The people have been hero to-
day and first of the big trades
dayshas been a great success
The greatest amount of trade
comes from the wage earners
therefore every effort should be
made to increase the tin bucket
brigade
The postoffice at Price this
county has been ordered discon
raised dishes that cannot he
cooked So ho gives up the
things he had supposed ho was to
draw along with matimony
At such times as these ho will
probably confide to some one that
to keep the peace in the house
with a woman you must give up
n great deal more than she docs
His wife meanwhile is really
deferring to more than he has any
idea She gives up saying un-
pleasant things about his family
She gives up comparing his moth
cr with hers to the advantage of
the latter She gives up feeding
him with food she feels to be con-
venient and hygienic and supplies
him with the mince pie and cheese
and things pork tenderloins and
lobsters and other items likely to
upset his stomach If she is an un
usiml woman she may get to the
point of giving up the last word
But this is not generally until she
is very old
It is said there arc women who
arecapable of giving up saying
I told you sol for the sake of
keeping peace in the family This
however is only hearsay evi-
dence and not admissible in
court From Success Maga-
