FINDING A MARKET
Distribution of Texas products to
Texas towns in need Is a problem that
should be solved It would serve to
Teep much foreign grown stuff out of
the Texas market The jobbers fol-
low the line of least resistance which
means that growers elsewhere are or-
ganized to make prompt and full
shipments to supply the market de-
mand Did it ever strike you that
this Is the reason that things come
In carload lots from California and
Colorado and not that the things can-
not be raised in Texas Beaumont
Enterprise
The trouble with the fruit and
truck growing business in nearly ev-
ery section of the state is that there
is a lack of business management
Our farmers taking themvis a whole
have had practically no experience
outside of crops like cotton corn
wheat and oats When these werp
ready to sell they loaded up and
drove to town They always found
some one ready to pay them the mar-
ket price in cash for their product

PALESTINE TEXAS SEPTEMBER 4 1908
SEPTEMBER 4 IN HISTORY
1755 Public announcement was made
of the exile of the Acadians
from Nova Scotia
1767 Charles Townsend the British
statesman whose bill taxing tea
These things are in a sense staple
and their value is a known quantity
With fruit and truck conditions are
different and it is going to take good
hard business sense to work the
problems out The winter months
ahead would be a splendid time in
which to get busy organize and study
Denison Herald
The above is timely There is now
no problem connected with this in-
dustry except that of the market It
has been demonstrated that we can
grow the truck and fruit and at big
profits provided the markets can be
found for the products This is a
business proposition and it will take
business men to settle it When this
problem is solved the truck and fruit
business will be a success in East
Texas and this section will get rich
Get in the parade Monday This
old town is building floats of all de-
scriptions Just now and is going to
pull off a big parade Monday
Palestine has more and better
paved streets than any town of its
size in the state and we are now
busy building good sidewalks This
town will do
The Rusk PressJournal under the
management of W M Ellis and W
E Long has made bfg Improvements
and is In every way creditable to
Rusk and Cheroke e county They are
good newspaper men
Anderson county has two Infant in-
dustries that are destined to attract
much attention from the outside
world namely the home canning arid
tobacco industries There are vast
possibilities in these industries and
they will eventually make this county
wealthy
wy OUasa ats
The Herald urges every business-
man in the city to take a membership
in the Board of Trade and then use
his personal influence to make the
Board of vast benefit to the town
There is much work that needs the
combined efforts of all the people
Let no live man stay out of this or-
ganization
There may be good reasons why
the school books of this state should
be changed from top to bottom grades
often but we have not been able
to see it Back in the times when
our fathers were getting their educa-
tion one old blue back speller edu-
cated the whole family in that depart-
ment and the same thing was true
of the geography and other books
Of course they were not as wise then
as we are now but some of them
managed to learn a few things
