He middle of the floor in the clerks
ifflce and burned a page which he had
list torn frora one of the record books
jf the county Clerk Britton says
tfoore filed several papers with him
me day last week and this morning
ie came in and called for the papers
Ie was told that they were not quite
eady for him as the record had not
leen completed He then asked to
ee one of the papers which was giv
n to him He also asked to see the
ecord book where the paper had been
fled and this was shown him One of
he young lady clerks left him with

Britton for a match Britton was busy
at his desk and without paying an
attention to the man handed him a
match Immediately fire was set to
the page from the record and it was
destroyed before any one could inter-
fere Moore then walked out on the
west steps of the court house and
burned the original record which had
been handed to him by the clerk
Moore stood and walked around the
corridor of the court house for quite a-
while before leaving since which time
while before leaving Affidavit was
sworn out1 against him before Justice
Dexter as soon as possible and offi-
cers went in search of him He was
found at the Lindell Hotel and placed
under arrest Pending an investiga-
tion the man was remanded to jail
He declined to make a statement
The mutilation of a court or official
record of this character is a felony of
fense and punishable by a prison
term
Moore is quite well known to the
court house employes and they can-
not account for his strange conduct
this morning Mr Britton says Moore
appeared to be very nervous after he
had destroyed the records

The Cjty Schools Begin Today With
One Month Pay School Before
Regular Term
The city schools opened today under
most auspicious circumstances and
notwithstanding the first month will
be a pay school the buildings are all
practically full and the Central school
reports crowded conditions
It was thought by some that pos-
sibly the first month being a pay
school many children would not start
until the second month But such is
not the case judged by the very large
attendance The opening is about up
to the average and apparently very
few children will be denied the advan
tage of the first month of the term
and it is well they should not for this
first month is very necessary to all
children who hope for promotion as
the loss of a mpnth would seriously
handicap them
At all buildings it is reported the
work moved off smoothly and with
less friction than usual due to the
improved system of organization
adopted by Superintendent King
The public schools are going to have
a prosperous year of it

THE GAVE OIL II1RHL
Block on South Sycamore Street Is
Sprinkled With Oil The Dust
Held Down Securely
Citizens living on South Sycamore
between Dallas and Trinity streets
grown weary of the dust gave oil a
trial Saturday The oil wagon gave
the street a good coating of oil and
the dust was settled The traffic over
this block was very heavy Saturday
afternoon and Sunday but the oil held
the dust and it was the only block in
the town where there was any amount
of travel where the dust demon was
not doing full time Many people ob
ject to oil on the street because they
say it is bad when tracked into the
house This may be true but that it
settles the dust there can no longer
be any question
