coaching during those years.
They, no doubt, gave as much
time and effort as they could to
turn up with a winner in the
specific sport they coached, but
the goal at which they shot was
not attained. Mayhap, it was
the material available, a
thought that came to mind, al-
though it’ll doubtless be a dis-
comfort to the mammies and
pappies of some kiddoes w h o

Cuero high in those lean years, |
just as it did for the forebearers j
of the writer just after the him
of the century.
Our conclusion is that the
coaching is not at fault, but ra-|
ther the lack of interest of the
kids who turn out for the vari-
ous sports. Have had occasion
to watch practice sessions in
most of the high school sports'
and the seemingly lackluster at- j
titude of the participants was;
evident.
Enlightening however, is the I
impression left that a new ‘Op-!
eration New’ is on the agenda, j
Coacli Ford started it in foot- j
hall; Coach Witte continued it j
in basketball and Co-coaches
Ford and Mitchell are continu-
ing it in track. Also, we gotta
give a base hit to Coach Ray
Palmour, who is handling the
baseball team. They haven’t
won but one of three and have
booted the ball around a bit,
but he's bearing down and so
are his charges.
If Palmour can find the com-
bination to gobble up those
grounders and a few fellows
who can smack the pellet with
two teams on the road.
Manager Fred Pridgen of the
Cuero Trotters says it takes
him at least two days of shoe
shining to send his boys from
here to Beeville and back, win
or lose.
