HINTS FROM HELOISE
by Helo
,Se Cruse
&mt Folks:
DM you ever get up in the
morning and while still stumb-
ling around in the kitchen with
one eye hall open, gasp that
first sip of coffee and bum the
living daylights out of your ton-
gue? Wow. does that hurt ...
The way I prevent tills
(which incidentally I've been
doing for years and all of my
friends have been telling me to
write about) is AFTER stirring
that cup of coffee — drop In
an ice cube and let it float on
TOP.
Do NOT stir again | Works as well as any sifter !
The ice will cool that first bigj and is so much easier to clean!
gulp and by the time you have! since the net may be removed !
a few swallows, the coffee in' and rinsed under your cold wat-’
the bottom of the cup is still er faucet.

Heloise Dear Heloise:
GUESS AGAIN—Many-a-tlme A. V. Welch and hts daughter.
Kay, of Nederland in east Texas, have been mistaken for
President Lyndon B. Johnson and his daughter, Lud Nugent.
P. S. And If you keep extra
ice cubes in the drip tray un-
der the freexing compartment
as we suggested, you won't ev-
en have to open a tray.
Heloise
D"ar Heloise;
Here is rny idea for amusing
children when traveling by car:
I buy a small inexpensive gift
for each day we will he trav-
eling and wrap them In pretty,
colored paper.
Then 1 write the days that
they are to be opened on the
outside and place then all In a
box
Each day my son has a new
toy or trinket to play with, and
more to look forward to.
I find this fun for any age.
Mrs. G. D
Dear Heloise:
Here’s another nylon net goo-
die.
When baking, I needed to sift
some flour but had no sifter. So
I cut the end of an empty
pound cofnee can and removed
the plastic cover from the other
end.
I covered one end with a piece
of nylon net held .with a rubber |
band. Poured in the flour and
sifted away.
It worked dandy.
Here's a convenient way to
keep your potted plants water-
ed when you will be gone from
home for a week or so
First water the plant as us-
ual. Then place a heavy, wet
string on the soil with one end
of the string in a jar of water
The string acts like a wick
if you have the jar of water
higher than the plant Also, the;
water goes through a hemp
string faster than a cotton one

Ever thought to put the
plants in your bath tub, cover
with a plastic garment hag af-
ter putting a few ice cubes on

; Dear Heloise
When I wrap an car of corn
1 in foil to place on th" grill dur
ing a cook-out, I leave the toll
on one end a little longer,
then twist it to make a handle
This makes it easy to turn
the eom while cooking and al-
so it’s easier to remove from
the grill
