Santa Claus
is coming
to town!
With less than a month
until Christmas, Santa is
gearing up for the holiday
season by making his first
appearance in Albany Sat-
urday night, Nov. 30, at
6:00 p.m. in the Old Fash-
ioned Christmas Parade.
Santa’s sleigh is being
prepared for the long trip
around the world, so St.
Nick will be arriving dur-
ing the parade on a fire
truck.
After arrival, Santa will
greet children and listen
to Christmas wishes in
the Bank Park, near the
fountain.
Parents desiring pic-
tures may bring their
cameras.
Parade to light up downtown
♦ Drawings to be
held at end of night
By Kathryn Stapp
The 2013 Old Fashioned
Christmas parade, organized by
Albany Chamber of Commerce,
is expected to draw a large crowd
to downtown Albany on Satur-
day night at 6:00 p.m.
Starting the evening will be
a chili supper at the Aztec The-
ater, with donations accepted
for the Chamber.
During the hour before the
parade, a casual Christmas
Country open mic event is
planned inside the Aztec.
Parade Plans
The lighted parade features
beautifully decorated floats,
vehicles, music, costumed char-
acters, wagons and horses. High
point of the parade will be an
appearance by Santa Claus rid-
ing on a Albany VFD fire truck.
The Chamber is looking for
businesses, churches, commu-
nity organizations, families and
individuals who would like to
get in the Christmas spirit and
march or ride on a float in the
Christmas Parade.
There is no cost to participate
in the parade. To register, con-
tact Diana Nail at 325-762-2525.
“Nov. 30 is the parade day
and we need more entries in
the horse categories, cars, walk-
ers, those kinds of things,” Nail
added.
One thing that is being
requested is that float and
wagon entries have some kind
of lighted decorations for the
Christmas season, not just a
plain vehicle.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
ounty records split vote
By Melinda L. Lucas
A couple of split votes
marked Monday’s meeting of
the Shackelford County Com-
missioners, with dissent over
two issues that had been dis-
cussed at previous sessions.
COG Funds
A representative of the
West Central Texas Council of
Governments was present to
explain the COG budget and
excess funds, stating that the
$714 left over from Shackel-
ford County’s 9-1-1 expenses
could be used for utilities, rent,
salary, or supplies.
The overage was first
brought up during the Oct. 28
meeting, when county judge
Ross Montgomery suggested
that the excess funds be given
to 9-1-1 coordinator Gayala
Askew, as the commissioners
had done in the past.
However, commissioners
Stan West was concerned that
doing so would “throw the pay
scale out of whack.”
After discussion, Mont-
gomery made a motion to
pay the $714 to Askew. Steve
Riley seconded the motion and
Lanham Martin also voted in
favor. West voted against.
CAD Representative
During the Nov. 12 ses-
sion, the commissioners had
nominated Martin along
with Montgomery to serve as
the county’s representatives
on the Shackelford County
Appraisal District’s board
of directors, which has been
expanded from five to seven.
However, Montgomery
learned after the meeting
that even though the county
now has enough votes to elect
two representatives, Martin’s
nomination had been too late
to add to the ballot.
West made a motion to have
the previous motion appoint-
ing Martin to stand, but the
proposal ended in a tie vote,
with West and Riley voting in
favor, and Montgomery and
Martin against.
All members seemed to be
in agreement that the county
should have two members, but
a second motion died for lack
of a second.
Other Business
•No bids were received for
the pipe left from the pris-
oner’s yard at the former jail
building, so the commission-
ers decided to sell the posts to
Keith Holcomb for $300.
•Montgomery reported
that a permit had been re-
ceived from the Texas His-
torical Commission for the
placement of the Bob Green
monument on the Courthouse
square.
Football Fever
Pep rally, send-off planned
By Kathryn Stapp
The traditional playoff drum
beating, preceded by a commu-
nity pep rally at the Bank Park,
will kick off the Athletic Booster
Club’s special playoff activities

up with Iraan.
Albany will travel to Big
Spring’s Memorial Stadium
for the regional football playoff
game, with kickoff set for 4:00

Braves, who defeated Munday
last week at the area level.
A fan bus is being sponsored
to the game by First National
Bank of Albany/Breckenridge,
with reserved seats costing $25
for the trip. Contact Ramona
Reames at the bank to reserve
