1 AN ACT
2 relating to the establishment of a multidisciplinary studies
3 associate degree program at each public junior college.
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
5 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 130, Education Code, is
6 amended by adding Section 130.0104 to read as follows:
7 Sec. 130.0104. MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDIES ASSOCIATE DEGREE
8 PROGRAM. (a) The governing board of each public junior college
9 district shall establish a multidisciplinary studies associate
10 degree program at each junior college in the district.
11 (b) A multidisciplinary studies associate degree program
12 established at a junior college under this section must require a
13 student to successfully complete:
14 (1) the junior college's core curriculum adopted under
15 Section 61.822(b); and
16 (2) after completion of the core curriculum under
17 Subdivision (1), the courses selected by the student in the
18 student's degree plan completed under Subsection (c).
19 (c) Notwithstanding Section 51.9685, before the beginning
20 of the regular semester or term immediately following the semester
21 or term in which a student successfully completes a cumulative
22 total of 30 or more semester credit hours for coursework in a
23 multidisciplinary studies associate degree program established1
24 under this section, the student must meet with an academic advisor
