1 AN ACT
2 relating to block scheduling for certain associate degree and
3 certificate programs at public junior colleges.
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
5 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 130, Education Code, is
6 amended by adding Section 130.0095 to read as follows:
7 Sec. 130.0095. BLOCK SCHEDULING FOR CERTAIN ASSOCIATE
8 DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM. (a) To facilitate timely degree
9 completion by students at public junior colleges, from among the
10 allied health, nursing, and career and technology associate degree
11 or certificate programs offered by a public junior college, the
12 college shall establish, for at least five of those programs not
13 previously offered as a block schedule curriculum, a block schedule
14 curriculum under which:
15 (1) courses required for a student's enrollment in the
16 program as a full-time student are offered each semester in
17 scheduled blocks, such as a morning, full-day, afternoon, evening,
18 or weekend block schedule, designed to provide scheduling
19 predictability from semester to semester to students enrolled in
20 the program; and
21 (2) students may enroll in an entire block schedule
22 curriculum offered under the program in a semester, rather than
23 enrolling in individual courses leading toward the degree or24 certificate.
