and banana pudding
A men’s non-denomination-
al gathering will occur at 6

Baptist Church, 241 W. Live

Wayne Delk will speak to
the group at 7 p.m. Men are
asked to bring their Bibles,
Burgers & Banana Pudding.
As a teenager, Belk’s poten-
tial caught the attention of his
pastor. Through much men-
toring, Wayne began to speak
to the church youth group on
Wednesday nights.
Over the next four de-
cades, he has served as Youth
Leader, Youth Pastor, church
musician, Evangelist, Asso-
ciate Pastor, Assistant Pas-
tor, Interim Pastor, Sunday
School Teacher, gospel music

growth in their church.
Here are just a very small
sampling of comments about
this ministry:

“I have known Bro. Delk
since the early years of his
ministry. He came many
times to preach for me at my
church in Pasadena. I have
watched him grow and ma-
ture over the years. I hear
such great reports on all that
he does. I am glad he is now
able to return to full-time
ministry, he will be able to
share his unique ministry
with so many more.

he had opened Calvary Bible
School, Wayne came to me
with an idea. Why not let him

got that approved and open.
He began to teach his first
class of six students. Now
26 years later, that campus
still is graduating students. I
had the pleasure of present-
ing Doctorate degrees to two
of those first students a few
years ago. We were sad when
Wayne left to go back into
full-time ministry, but he has
our full faith and blessings.”

“I can only say, this is an
extremely multi-talented
man. I have never heard any-
one preach with his style of
delivery. One service with
Wayne is like a roller coaster
of emotions. I watched him
move an audience from side-
splitting laughter to tears in a
matter of seconds. He stands
out from anyone I have ever
heard. We were blessed to
have him serve as our Con-
tributing Editor from Texas
for 10 years. He wrote many
inspiring and memorable col-
umns. He is blessed to have
so many God-given talents.”

By LANORA JOSLIN
Special to the Gazette
Even though the summer
reading program ended on
June 28 for school age chil-
dren, the fun activities did
not. The month of July has
been busy with children con-
tinuing to read and enjoy
books, as well as the new au-
tomation system the library
is using, thanks to a Tocker
Grant obtained by library di-
rector Lanora Joslin.
Joslin and her staff invite
everyone to come in and
pick up the instructions for
using the system either in
the library or in their home,
if they have an internet con-
nection. Patrons will be able
to browse the card catalogue,
put items on hold, or even
renew items from their com-
puter. They will also be able
to use the Texshare link using
only their library card num-
ber and the phone number
with which they registered.
With this link, they will be
able to access several data-
bases which the library could
not afford alone, but which
come with their state accredi-
tation.
“This is a wonderful tool
which many of our patrons
are already using both at
home and in the library. We
would love to show everyone
how to use it.
Much of it can be used by
our school children on their
school Ipads for research
and also for anyone from 3rd
grade through college gradu-
ate school entrance who need
to study for testing. One
program includes both the
educational tests mentioned
above, as well as GED in
both English and Spanish,
nursing entrance exams, and
police exams.
As long as we can meet the
local proof of monetary sup-
port, these programs will be
available along with many
more on our website. I will
continue to strive to get this
support from our city and
county governments so that
we can realize the dream that
Mrs. Ritchie and many other
of our citizens had in 1979
to have a library that would
grow in its services to the
people,” stated Mrs. Joslin.
“The grant pays for the au-
tomation system which is
used for cataloguing, circu-
lations, and delivery of these
programs for the next 5 years
at a cost of over $8,000, none
of which comes from local
funds.
In addition to the above
changes at the library, the
summer staff has also been
providing activities for kin-
dergarten and up and young-
er, if accompanied by an
adult.
Every Wednesday morn-
ing at 10 a.m. is craft time.
These activities have been
well attended so far. Children
have done crafts led by Mrs.
Baugh, summer reading di-
rector who has a Poem Day,

Every Friday at 2 p.m., the
summer youth volunteers
have been showing movies
complete with popcorn and
a drink. So far this month 20
to 30 young children have
shown up to see The Lorax
and Puss and Boots. On July
