The Texas Tornados are
back! The San Antonio-based
TexMex music makers will
be on stage of the Graham
Memorial Auditorium Sept.
18 to open the Graham Con-
cert Association’s 2012-2013
season.
The performance will begin
at 7:30 p.m. The doors will
open at 6:50 p.m. for a first
come, first-served seating.
Admission is limited to sea-
son ticket holders only; how-
ever, if there are any vacant
seats at 7:15, admission will
be $15 a seat.
The Grammy winning Tex-
as Tornados came together
in the early ‘90s with Doug
Salim, Freddy Fender, Flaco
Jimenez and Augie Meyers.
After the deaths of Sahm and
Fender, they disbanded, but
Salim’s look-alike, sound-
alike son, Shawn, has initi-
ated the revival of the group.
Today the Texas Tornados
are some of the most famous
and enduring faces of the
TexMex music genre.
Members of the earlier Tex-
as Tornados, Flaco Jimenez,
a Grammy-winning accor-
dion player, and Augie Mey-
ers on the organ, have joined
Shawn Sahm on the guitar
and vocals.
The three front men, backed
by the original Tornados
rhythm section, have delight-
ed audiences the past few
years by delivering classic
Tornado tunes with musical
legitimacy while not losing
the sense of fun the original
lineup was so famous for.
Whether playing “Hey
Baby, Que Paso” or “Dinero”
or a new release, the key to
the Tornados bouncy, catchy
sound is the interplay be-
tween Jimenez’s accordion
and Myer’s organ.
Hearing and seeing the two
masters work their instru-
ments with such ease is truly
a pleasure.
Theirs is fun, feel-good mu-
sic that makes you smile and
r foot.
performances for the
season will include the Hit
Men who will be on stage
Oct. 16 and Dukes of Dixie-
land will perform Nov. 27.
Jan. 24, 2013, Graham Re-
gional Theater will present
their annual performance fol-
lowed by the Celtic Cross-
roads Feb. 18.
The Fort Worth Symphony
Orchestra will bring the sea-
son to a close March 5 with
their annual performance.
