Thimble Quilters Quilting
Bee!!! On the blustery Mon-
day morning of February 11
the anxious quilters met to
have another day of working
and having fellowship with one
another.
Ina Daniel and Sandy
Moore had pieced two beau-
tiful quilts for the group. These
two quilters always make such
striking quilts.
Ina made a full size quilt
in the pattern, “Magic Nine
Patch” with many vibrant
multi color triangles and
squares on an off white back-
ground. . She added a border
with a ribbon pattern around
the edge. She plans to keep
this most lovely quilt for her-
self.
Sandy used a block of the
month, “Patchwork Panache”
for her large beautiful queen
quilt. The fabric selected is
called “Moda from the
Howard Miller Tradition” and
was composed of hues of teal,
brick, beige, and brown in a
variety of prints and flowers
which were most coordinated.
For lunch several of the
quilters ate at Estella’s and
others attended the Women’s
Luncheon at the First Baptist
Church.......then back to a
wonderful afternoon of shar-
ing and stitching.
Early Tuesday morning,
February 12th, the quilters
braved the cold, wet, rainy, and
snowy weather to gather in the
warm quilting room. We are
all so thankful for any mois-
ture that we receive. The
quilters worked all morning on
the quilts and then it was time
for our business meeting. The
cookbook which is to be pre-
pared by the quilters was dis-
cussed. Committee members
will work on decisions regard-
ing the recipes, format, etc. for
the book. Quilters need to be
making plans for the recipes
that will be included in the
cookbook.
Margaret Moore is going
to make a quilt for a raffle
later in the year. Other quilters
volunteered to help her in se-
lection of the neutral and
brown fabrics which will be
used in the piecing of the quilt.
The quilters also voted to
sponsor a young lady in the
Miss Ralls Contest later in the
spring. Lucky winners who
were chosen to select a prize
from the “goody basket” were
Carolyn Redding and Glenda
Yarbrough. We all like to see
special items that have been
brought from which to choose.
Cleta is working on a
friendship quilt and needs
blocks from each quilter.
Sandy also reminded everyone
that the Ogalla Quilt Show will
be April 5 and 6. Dorothy
Binder and Carolyn Redding
were selected to be the quilters
on February 25 and 26. Gay la
Laminack was chosen as the
alternate.
Show and Tell was most
eventful. Sandy Moore had
prepared a baby quilt with
“frogs” as the theme that was
absolutely adorable. She plans
to keep this lovely quilt for her
family. Lynda Hail showed the
group 4 items that she had
made for her grandchildren: a
quilt with basketballs, a rain-
bow girl, a rock star and an
old quilt top that she had pur-
chased that she quilted. All of
these were so unique and
beautiful.
Cleta shared a quilt top
with the group that belonged
to her husband’s great grand-
mother. She plans to have the
quilters to quilt it for her sis-
ter-in-law.
We ate lunch at Estella’s
and then went back to the quilt-
ing room to partake of luscious
desserts. Barbara Dunn and
Vida Woodard were host-
esses. Barbara made tasty
apricot cobbler and brownies
and Vida had the ice cream
for the topping. How
yummy!!!!!
The snowy blizzard on
Monday, February 25 th pre-
vented the quilters from their
normal work day. I was in
Dallas and missed all of the
snow. Some of the quilters
showed up on Tuesday to
work. They had a nice lunch
at Estella’s. The quilters gath-
ered on Thursday, February
28 for a regular day of quilt-
ing. The two quilts in the
frames were lovely creations
by Carolyn Redding and
Dorthy Binder.
Carolyn Redding had
pieced a large king size ’Bam
Raising Log Cabin”, pattern
quilt. The quilt has traditional
log cabin blocks that are
shaded half and half dark and
are arranged to form concen-
tric diamonds. The colors that
Carolyn used are vivid greens,
blues, magentas, teals, and in
various hues. Some floral
pieces are included in the pat-
tern. She plans to keep this
beautiful work of art for her-
self.
Dorthy Binder’s quilt is a
queen size with the pattern,
“Lone Star” and is made of
variations of browns, beiges,
rose, dots and florals. She has
made lovely and striking quilts
for her family..., but she said
that this quilt is “going to be
placed on her bed.” She is
keeping it. Yeah!!
We had a lovely lunch at
Estella’s. We always enjoy our
wonderful visiting and
sharing.....the fellowship is so
special. It was also great to
see Sharon Kurklin, as Sharon
has been recovering from foot
surgery. For the afternoon the
quilters worked diligently on
quilts and others worked on
cookbook ideas.
The quilters will meet on
March 11 and 12 for the next
quilting session. March, al-
ready???? See you then!!
