7th Green Team
Lady Whippets Lose
To A.P., Improving
The 7th grade Lady Whippets
green team showed Aransas Pass
what they were all about by pulling
up their socks and winning the first
ofa three-game match 16-14.
The Taft ladies lost the second
game 15-13 and the third game 15-8
due to weak serves, but their perfor-
mance continues to improve.
"The ladies worked together as a
team in the first two games which
were high-lighted by outstanding
play by Dominick Rodriguez and
good overhand serves by Renata
Guajardo. Candace Montemayor
put points on the board for us when
needed as well as jessica Gonzales,
the Sinast twins, Rodriguez, Nicole
Hinojosa, Lisa Castellanos, and
Cydney Gonzalez," said Coach
Sandra Weber.

Greyhounds Drop Opener
Against Orange Grove 7-0
The varsity Greyhounds met up
with a very experienced Orange
Grove Bulldog team Friday night,
taking their first regular season loss
of 7 to 0. "We felt like the kids gave
a great effort. Although we didn't
win, as coaches we did see alot of
bright spots," stated Coach Keno
Aleman.
"Orange Grove had a real, real
good team. Very experienced team,
so we knew going in that it would
be a tough game. We had our
chances, especialy very early in the
game and didn't take advantage of
it," Aleman continued.
"Good teams do take advantage
of opportunities, we're not as good
as we will be in the near future. The
team overall gave a great effort and
I'm proud of that," Aleman said.
According to Coach Aleman
offensively the team didn't move
the ball consistently and they were
hurt on first downs. Individually
John Martinez, Jacob Torres and Ben
Cortez had a good night.
"I felt like our backs ran hard, we
just came up short a couple of times.
Our special teams, especially punt-
ing did a great jobl J. D. Alvarado,
center and punter, Henry Ortiz, two
sophomores, did real well," Aleman
said.
"Defensively we played good
enough to win. We bent some, but
they only had one penatration on
us. 1 felt like our whole defense did
a real good job. Special praise goes
to Michael Flores and Andrew,
Bergman," Aleman continued.
"We are looking forward to this
week, when we host Rockport-
Fulton. This will be a game with two
hungry teams loking for a win,"
Aleman concluded.
In rushing Greyhounds James
Whitehurst carried 16 timesfor 59
yards and Alfredo Martinez carried
nine times for a total of 36 yards.
Nikole Rodriguez-2 points, and
Ashley Adame-1 points.
