Scholarship Nominations
Claudia Morrison and Bill
Jentsch, Archer City High
School seniors, have been
selected by a faculty com-
mittee as nominees to re-
present the high school for
the National Honor Society
Scholarship Awards.
They are the children of
Mr. and Mrs. Claude A.
Morrison and Mr. and Mrs.
W.A. Jentsch, Archer City.
Mrs. Helen Fall, Honor
Society sponsor, stated these
two students, chosen on the
basis of outstanding leadcr-
fethip, scholarship, character
™nd service, are participa-
ting in national competition
to receive a SI,000 scholar-
ship each if selected as win-
ners by a National Honor
Society committee.
Miss Morrison has been a
member of the Archer City
Chapter of the National
Honor Society for three
years, a member of the Stu-
dent Council for two years
and served as vice-presi-
dent. member of the Library
Club for four years and
served as secretary, featured
as girl of the month for three
times, and member of the
Future Homemakers of
America Chapter for four
years.
The nominee has also
served as class favorite for
three years, been a class
officer for three years and
was named to Who's Who in
Social Studies. She was Fall
Festival Queen, best sup-
porting actress in the junior
play and Citizen of the
Month three times.
Miss Morrison was also
recognized as the Most
Friendliest and Football
Queen. She has played bas-
ketball for four years and
was named to the All-Dis-
trict team, second team,
during her sophomore year.
She has entered into track
competition and served as
cheerleader during football
season for four years.
Jentsch has been a mem-
ber of the Honor Society for
three years, the Spanish
Club for one year and Future
Farmers of America for two
years. He was named to
Who’s Who in Mathemetics,
best supporting actor in the
junior play and best actor in
the senior play.
The nominee was recog-
nized as Who’s Who Among
American High School Stu-
dents, named to Boy's State
and participated in slide rule
interscholastic league and
placing fourth in state in
'74-75. He was also entered
in number sense and prose
in interscholastic competi-
tion.
The 225 national scholar-
ship winners will be selected
from among high school
Honor Society nominees
from across the nation
during the spring.
Six Students Moke
State Solo Competition
Six Archer County High
School Band students, three
from Archer City and three
from Holliday, placed in the
first class, first division to
gain superior ratings in the
regional solo and ensemble
contests held Saturday at
Midwestern University in
Wichita Falls and are now
eligible to go to the state
contests.
Placing in the first class
from Archer City were Deb-
bie Aulds, piano soloist;
Donna Shearmire, flute
soloist accompanied on pi-
ano by Will Andrews; and
Donald Hill on trumpet ac-
companied by Lyn Eve. The
three students from Holliday
also receiving superior rat-
ings in the first class were
Molly Williams, alto-saxa-
phone accompanied on piano
by Beth Parker; Jon Hodge,
trumpet accompanied by
Molly Williams; and Beth
Parker, piano.
These six band members
are now eligible to compete
at the University of Texas,
Austin, May 29 and 31 in the
state solo and ensemble
competition.
Nine other students en-
tered in the competition at
Wichita Falls also placed in
the regional competition.
Receiving first division or
superior ratings in the
second or third classes were
Brenda Morris, piano; Mark
Jumpster, baritone; and
Ellen Loftin, alto-saxaphone,
all of Archer City.
Second division winners
making excellent ratings in
the second or third classes
from Archer City were
Herby Victory, trumpet; Will
Andrews, piano and Lisa
Stubbs, piano. Holliday
second division winners in
the second class were Kelly
Morgan, alto-saxaphone ac-
companied by Molly Willi-
ams on piano and Donna
Ruth on flute accompanied
by Beth Parker.
