The groom is a service technician

Kristie graduated from West
High School in 1963. Russell

Kristie is the granddaughter

along with Mrs. Katie Drews and

Great-grandparents are Mrs.

The West Catholic Daughter
of the Americas, Court 829, met
September 6 at St. Joseph's Hall.
Regent Ginger Kutscherousky
welcomed 35 members present
and led them in the opening
ceremonies. The opening prayer
was in memory of their member
Georgie Kofnovec, who passed
away June 24.
Reports were heard from
chairperson Kathy Podsednik on
activities for the Junior Court
planned for the upcoming 1994-
95 year. Renewal chairperson,
Geraldine Laubert, reminded
members of the upcoming
ministry program classes foryear
II to be in our parish the classes
will begin at 7 p.m., Sept. 20 in
St. Joseph's Hall.
Members who attended the
National Convention in Des
Moines, Iowa, July 17-22, gave
reports on the National
Convention. The theme of the
45th Biennial National
Convention was "90 Years, A
Glorious Heritage; A Challenging

The next meeting will be at
7:30 p.m. on October 3 at St.
Joseph's Hall. All members who
have October birthday are to
bring refreshments the October
meeting will be closed with the
rosarv.
The Clothes Canopy, 204 N.
Main, had an open house on Sept.
1 celebrating the store's Aug. 1
move to its West location.
The ladies apparel store
opened two years ago along 1-35
in Elm Mott and now is located in
the old Lone Star Gas building in
West.
Owner Sandra Suggs and
manager Jill Suggs said the store
sells unique ladies apparel and
accessories, dresses, Mother-of-
the-Bride dresses, sports wear,
jewelry, belts and hand bags.
Jill,a former West High School
graduate, and Sandra, an area
resident for the past 15 years,
said, "we have enjoyed the com-
munity for years and thought it
would be a nice place to open a
business."
The 900 square foot building
is remodeled and features a store
front similar to the one at their
former location in Elm Mott. The
distinctive canopy and statue
outside add to the building's dis-
tinctive look.
The store's hours are from: 10
a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. - 5
p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m.
- 5:30 p.m. for the rest of the
week. The store is closed on Sun-
day. The store's phone number is
826-3775.
"We do special orders on sizes,"
the two said while adding they
put items on layaways and ac-
cept Visa and Mastercard.

EVEN KIDS WILL LOVE THEIR VEGGIES
Green vegetables that in the past were served
mainly as soggy, hot side dishes are finding their
way into healthier diets as delicious main courses. They are perfect for cold
salads, especially if they are made interesting with a glaze or light sauce. Add
interesting flavor with scallions, garlic, soy sauce, and a sweetener. Cook
vegetables until just tender, then immediately plunge into cold water to retain
the bright green color. Prepared well, the whole family will be veggie fans.
GARLIC GREEN BEANS
2tbls. minced garlic
2 tbls. rice wine
31/2 tbls. soy sauce
3 tbls. sugar
3 tbls. water
Add green beans into a large pot of boiling water. Cook for 3 minutes, or
until crisp but tender. Drain in a colander, immerse in cold water until cool,
and drain again. Heat a wok or a large skillet, add the oil, and heat until hot.
Add scallions and garlic and stir-fry over high heat for about 10 seconds. Add
green beans and rice wine and stir-fry for about 30 seconds. Add soy sauce,
sugar, and water, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Cook until beans are tender
and the sauce has reduced to a glaze, about 1 minute. Serve warm or cold.
GARLIC BROCCOLI
2 pounds broccoli 2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons sesame oil 1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon chile pepper (lakes 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Cut away woody stem ends. Cut off florets and cut the stems on the
diagonal into 11 /2-inch sections. Make florets about the same size as the
stem pieces. Dressing: Combine the oils in a heavy saucepan, heat until
very hot but not smoking, and add the pepper flakes. Remove from heal,
cover, wtd let stand for 10 minutes. Add garlic, soy sauce, sugar, and lemon
juice, stir-fry to dissolve the sugar. Heat a large pot of water until boiling, add
brecooR, and bring back to a boil. Cook for about 3 minutes, or until crisp but
tender. Immediately drain in a colander and put under cold running water;
drain thoroughly. Transfer to a bowl, add the dressing, and toss to coat.
Serve warm or chied.

1 (9-inch) pastry shell,
unbaked
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup sugar

1 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 or margarine
Line pastry shell with
pecans; set aside. Blend sugar,
salt, corn syrup and vanilla.
Beat in eggs one at a time,
mixing well. Pour mixture
over pecans and dot with but-
ter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1
hour, or until knife inserted in
center of pie comes out clean.
Serve warm with scoop of
French vanilla ice cream.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Mindy Lea Griffin, age 6, would like to announce the birth of her
little sister, Kayla Jane, bom Monday, September 5,1994 at Hillcrest
Baptist Medical Center in Waco.
Kayla weighed seven pounds three ounces and measured 20

Darren and Tammy Barton became the proud parents of Chase
Madison on August 29 at 1:30 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
He weighed eight pounds three ounces.
Chase was welcomed home by his brother, Cody, and sisters
Katlyn and Courtney.

Mark and Jackie Sinkule are proud to announce the arrival of
their son, Zebeul McKay, bom August 30,1994 at 1:54 a.m.
Zebeul weighed seven pounds and was 20 inches long.

bom at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro.
