Santo Domingo Is a separate Re-
public', but a part of the Island of
Haiti. We land in the City of
Santo Domingo at 5:30 p. m. and
spend the night In a very bad hotel
(the best they have), opposite the
old Cathedral built In 1540 .where
Columbus was first burled. A part
of the house of his family Is still
standlng-^and I sympathize very
deeply with . Christopher as Santo
Domingo is such an ugly, miser-
able town, and still has many marks
of last September cyclone, which
nearly wiped it off the face of the
earth-
We Were awakened at 3:30 next
morning and at 4:00 my breakfast
was served In my room on a tray.
I was the first one down Btatrs to
await the Jitney which took us over
a bumpy road, six mileH, to the
flying field. The motors on the
plane were already buzzing, but at
five when the pilot climLed in, he
discovered something in theA'pulse"
which'.'did not suit him. and they
had to "tix it." proof of the ex-
treme precautions they take.

with love to your dad and hugs and
kisses to you. From— ...
AUNT CASSIE,
< Caroline Bomba.
