I was in the same brigade
with Comrade Redus from
1861 to 1863. We were en-
gaged in the following battles
and skirmishes, to-wit: Ft.
Donaldson, Tenn., at Dover-on
the-Cumberland River until the
fall of Vicksburg, Miss., in
1863, Comrade Redus al-
ways did his duty as a good
and fearless soldier at all
times. I was in the 26th Miss-
issippi and he in the 14th Miss-
issippi. We camped together
side by side until after the bat-
tle of Champion Hill, May 16,
1863. He wras cooped up in
the siege of Vicksburg where
from exposure and the effect
of the concussion and jarring
[sound of heavy artillery, was
the cause in latter years of his
total deafness.
