A Card Krirm J. G. West
Denison, August n, 1876.
Editor Daily New.:
in reply to Dr. Cutlers tirade against
me I would say that my cholera remedy
has been in uSe in this county for four
years—three years before Cutler & Son’s
remedy was known. Dr. Cutler met it
in his practice, and tried in every way to
get the receipe. Finally we agreed upon
a partnership to manufacture it together,
and I gave him the receipe. Owing to
the great expense of tile materials used in
making it he proposed to aduiturate and
cheapen the cost. This I refused to do.
Within a1 short time afterwards the Doc-
tor’s remedy was put upon the market.
These facts can be established by plenty
of witnesses, The public can draw their
own conclusions. J. G. West.
In the News of the 9th I noticed a
communication in regard to Dr. West
and his medicine. I wish the public not
to be misled through Dr. Cutler’s mis-
statements regarding Dr. West. I would
simply state that Dr. West’s medicine
sells better than any other patent medi-
cine on the market and as to the ingredi-
ents entering into the composition of Dr,
West's medicines I will state that no bet-
tei formula could be produced. The
medicines have been put. up iu my store
and Dr. Cutler nor no other M. D. can
make any improvement on the formula.
The ready sale of the preparation's is a
sufficient guarantee that the public are
satisfied with them. I presume why Dr.
Cutler takes exceptions to Dr. West's
medicines is simply because he is a ven-
der himself, and Dr. West is getting
away with him. D. Malcolmu.
CERTIFICATE.
We take pleasure in recommending J.
G. West’s Cholera Remedy to the public,
as we have tried it in our families and
found it to be the best remedy we have
used for the following diseases : Dysen-
tery, diarrhoea,- cramps, griping in the
Stomach and bowels, colic, cholera mor-
bus and chronic diarrhoea; also, for chil-
dren with summer complaint, and chol-
era infantum.

Geo. Woodlief, Mr. Northcutt and Mr.
Vandevier, who returned from a two
days’ hunt Wednesday evening, made a
discovery, during their absence, which is
a little mysterous. Tuesday night, just
at dark, they rode up to the summit of a
mound, about eighteen miles west ot
Denison, where Mr. Woodlief’s attention
was attracted to an object a short dis-
tance from him lying on the ground.
One of the party got down at bis sugges-
tion. to examine it, and it proved to be a
Colt’s six-shooter, with belt, bowie-knife,
scabbard, and an army cartridge box. In
the box were several bullets and caps.
The pistol was loaded all around, and
the belt is marked with the initials ‘‘J. A,
N.” They are 01 the opinion the articles
had laid their several months. The pis-
tol was rusty, but no difficulty was ex-
perienced in discharging it. They
brought the whole outfit in with them,
and Mr. Woodlief will take pleasure in
exhibiting the pistol and other articles to
any who have a curiosity to see them.
It being nearly dark when they made the
discovery, and raining, they did not con-
tinue their examinations.
It is certainly very singular how these
articles got there, which is a lonely spot,
far away from any residence. It has
been suggested that some one raav have
been murdered in that vicinity. Be this
as it may, there is a mys'ery about it that
we should like to see cleared up, and sug-
gest the same party visit the spot again
and make a thorough investigation.

Rev. Mr. Daugherty publishes acardin
the Cresset, in reply to the statement
made that water was not furnished the
excursionists on the train. He says there
was water on the train, but through an
oversight no means was provided for dis-
tributing it, and no cups nor buckets
could be obtained between Denison and
Dallas. At the latter station lie says a
man was hired to distribute water and
keep the train clean. At Milligan the wa-
ter supply gave out and a man was paid
to bring water a distance of a mile and a
half for the use of the passengers. Mr.
Daugherty further says the railroad com-
pany agreed to provide the passengers
with cold water on the trip, and that no one
regretted the failure of the company to
comply with their contract more than
himself; but he thinks if there Was any
suffering on the train it was very careful-
ly concealed.

It will be observed that several teachers
are not credited in some of the branches
included in the examination. Thiaia ow-

at the commencing of the exercises.
A committee of the city council was

in the inspection of the papers received
from the teachers.
Great pains were taken to make the
matter satisfactory to all concerned, and
while the school directors have discharg-

themselves very creditably, as will be
