Our remarks on Webster’s attack upon
the suffering people of Louisiana, has
called out a column reply, but it is weak
and does not make the position of the
editor any the more enviable. However,
it is reported that H. C. Terhune is the
author of this last effusion.

recording the death Of Mr. E. II. Lingo’s
little girl, Georgia. She had been sick
some time with typhoid fever, and sue-
coined to the disease Wednesday after-
noon. Little Geogia was about 3 years
of age. The father and mother have the
sympathy of this community in their
loss.

Mt. D. N. Dodson, the artistic manip-
ulator of job material in the Sherman
Register establishment, who spent a few
hours in Denison Sunday, is a novelist of
no mean pretentions. We understand he
is now engaged on a thrilling Indian tale.
The scene is located on the Texas frontier,
and for scalp-lifting and startling adven-
tures it is said to eclipse Beedle’s most
captivating productions. The Register
is negotiating for the copyright.

There was a crazy woman on Main
street Wednerday. She has gone to
Sherman,

Old Sol is trying his best to warm up
this part of our planet, and he is making
a success of it.
The cotton compress is being thoroug-
ly overhauled and several changes made.
' The old screw proved to be too small
for the work required of it, and a much
larger one is being put in. Tne changes
now going forward will cost upwards of
$iooo‘ but when the press is ready for
work it will be strong enough to put
three bales in one, and no risk of
breaking.
Cuttle (Shipping.
Mr. Eddy, Superintendent of the Choc-
taw division M., K. & T. railroad, in-
forms us that 80,000 head of cattle were
shipped from Denison over his road last
year. Every stock man with whom we
'have conversed on the subject assures us
the shipments this season will be largely
in excess of 1S73. Already the cattle be-
gin to arrive, and large heards are on the
road. The scene around the stQck yards
will he lively from this on.

hibition at Clark k Tallant’s Wednesday.
The fish weighed 50 lbs., and was caught
in Red River.
The New South editor says he does not
expect any Democratic patronage. The
course of the paper would indicate as
much.

Mr. M. W. Robbins lost a very valua-
ble dog, by poison being distributed over
the citv by the authorities, and the re-
sult will probably be that it will cost
Denison $200, as he has entered suit for
that amount of damages.
Mr. C. R. Gibson, who established the
Ellis county News about three months
since, has taken Mr. Wm. Falconer as
associate partner and editor. The News
is an excellent paper.
Mr. W. L. Holder, an old gentleman
living near the city, to®k his gun Tues-
day morning eariy, and -went down to
Mr. Looney’s pasture, thtee miles from
Denison, and shot two fine bucks and
caught a fawn—all this before breakfast.

pleted their great iron bridge over the
Missouri river, at Boonville, are enabiied
