will be such that the democracy can
safely present it to the west.

BHKRMAN NEWS.
From the Sherman Register.
Ed. Moore has moved into his
new and elegant quarters on the south
side of the square.
Now that Austin college is located
at Sherman, would it not be well to
change the name to something more
appropriate?
At an election held by the build-
ing committee of Austin college y es-
terday afternoon, Hon. R, A. Chap-
man was elected treasurer ot the
committee, and Captain F. M. Goode,
secretary.
Mr. Dickerman, district clerk, lias
furnished us with the following offi-
cial count of the election in Collin
county tor floater for Grayson and
Collin counties: Brockett, 17s;
Bemusdafter. 14; Dodge, 84; Alli-
son, 2951 ; Wy song, 1939 ;
Mr. William Heebe, ot this city,
is building a substantial stone busi-
ness house on Travis street, just
south of Mr. Dorchester’s new build-
ing. The building is to be two sto-
ries high, and of the most solid fire
proof character, and will be used as
a beer hall when completed.
We learn that there will he a very
large quantity of brick burned in
this city during the spring, and it is
probable that building material of
all kinds will be cheaper than ever
before. W. A. Squires & Co., are,
we are informed, already at work on
their yard, and will begin moulding
in a few days. They propose to make
2,000,000 biick during the season,
and will sell at low figures. Mr.
Squires is one of the best brick mak-
ers in the county and will have
charge of the work.

THE •‘FIRE QUEEN" EXPOSED.
An exciting scene took place at
a Spiritualist mass meeting held at
Rockford, 111. The vocal speaking
and character reading by E. V. j
Wilson, of Chicago, had concluded, j
and the grand fire test bv the Cliica-1
go Fire Queen, Mrs. Suydan, had |
commenced. Having bathed her-'
self in fire while under spirit influ-
ence she sat down amid the applause
of the immense audiunce that
crowded every poition of the hall.
Dr. T. Philips, of Belvidere, then
arose and said he would repeat the ! -
test without any influence whatever.
This the Doctor did amid the
cheers of the skeptics and the hisses
of the Spiritualists. Then Mr.
James Chalmers, of Rockford, arose
and did likewise. Dr. Dunn, of
that city, who claims to be a Spirit-
ualist of the better sort, ofleied $10
to the Fire Queen if she would hold
her thumb in the flame of a lamp for
forty seconds. A number of others
made the same offer, hut the abashed
“Fire Queen’’ would not accept.
Then ensued a metaphorical Donny-
bro k, such as is rarely witnessed in
a public hall, and in which a large
number took part,

A TRUE SOUTHERN HEROINE,
Edited by C. J. Worthington, late U. S.
Navy,
a *adamr Velasquez, disguised
ivA as a confederate officer, participated
in a nutnoerof the hardest fought battles
of the late war, and greatly distinguished
herself by the extraordinary valor she dis-
played. She also distinguished herself
as a
Suy and Secret Service Agent,
and on numerous occasions ran through
the Federal lines and obtained informa-
tion of vital importance to the Confeder-
ate commanders. Obtaining admission
behind the
SCENES AT WASHINGTON,
she established confidential relations with
prominent Federal officials; was con-
erned in the great
BOND SWINDLE,
bv which the United States Treasury suf-
fered to the extent of millions of dollars;
was actively engaged in blockade-run-
ning, and in encouraging
Substituting aud Houufy Frauds.
By which the work of recruiting the Fed-
eral armies w*s so seriously impeded-
and was the heroine ol a number of ex-
ploits even more interesting than those
of the battle-field. It also contains a his,
t >ry of her Mining on the Pacific Slope,
her travels in Europe. South America:
and among the Mormons Love, Court-
ship Marriage, Etc.
The above facts are substantiated by
leading men both South and North who
participated. No book of such varied and
intense interest as the Woman in Battle
has ever been issued in America.
