A Hire Destroyer of the Pests
Discovered.
The discover} of a sure destroyer of the
pestilent grasshopper belongs to an
adopted citizen of Texas, Mr. T. V. Mun-
son. Mr. M. has followed agricultural
pursuits all his life, and has spent quite
large portion of his time in the scientific
investigation of all questions of a botanic
natuie. Mr. Munson was in Nebraska
the first two seasons of the grasshopper
plague, and assures us that since the first
advent of the pestiferous insect he has
sought a remedy for the evil. He has
tried all the inventions of others, beside
every experiment that he himself had
invented, with only partial success Nev-
er tiring, however, in his ellorts to give to
man, on Tuesday,
from John Kinghain,
northwest of Sherman. He was
with the horse fourteen miles from Mr.
Kinghaui’s place.

In our notice of Dr. Wilson’s lectures,
Tuesdav morning, we slated Mr. Loving
received a test. It should have read Mr.
Looney, a gentleman living a few miles
northwest of Denison, and well known in
this community.
Mr. Louis Lebrecht, the entesprising
tobacconist, is just the man to sell you
good cigars and tobaccos at low prices
He has one of the largest and best select-
ed stocks of cigars, tobaccos and smokers’
articles in North Texas, and will sell
you by retail or in job lots, articles in his
line on as good„terms as can had in the
sauthwest- Call on him at 226 Main

A youngster nine years old. named Ed-
vard J. Lawhorne, a native of Missouri,
was arrested and placed in jail at «hei" j Se*f.nlera of\hewest a sure destroyer
for stealing a horse , for thejr WQrst enemV) hi,efforts have al
living eig 11™' ^ I last been crowned with success. Num-
bers of gardners and nurserymen in this
vicinity have tried Mr. Munson’s remedy
and all cordially testify to its efficiency.
The discovery is so simple that all in-
terested parties will wonder why it was
not before found out, but it is neverthe-
less effieicious and will prove to be of in-
calculable benefit to the agricultural and
horticultural interests of the grasshopper
legion.
The preparation is as cheap as could be
desired, and its application is so simple
that a mere child can protect a crop of
ten acres with it with but little labor.
The destroyer is not put upon the
plant, but upon the ground, and the
grasshopper will leave anything in the
line of growing vegetation to eat the des-
troyer. Why this is Mr. Munson has
not informed us, but he has a reason for
it and assures us that it is a fact well
tested.
It has cost Mr. Munson much time,
and will cost him no little expense to give
the benefits of this valuable discovery to
the farming community, and it is but
right that he should be partially com-
pensated for his trouble and expense, con-
sequently he will charge the moderate
smn of 50 cents for a recipe, and asks no
secrecy as to its ingredients from any
party who may purchase it. See his ad-
vertisement on this page.

look at Mr. B’s. stock ot wathes- Finding
a watch that suited hitn, he told Brown
that he would take it to Mr. Beall to find
out if the watch was as good an article an
Brown represented. Camp having stay-
ed away longer than was necessary, Mr.
Brownwent in search of his man. On in-
quiry at Mr. Beall’s establishment he
learned that Camp had been there, but
had gone, and upon further inquiry found
that he had “jumped the town” with the
watch. Mr. Brown then informed Offi
cer Yocom of the matter, and the two
procured horses and started in pursuit,
overtaking the culprit on Duck creek
about a mile and a half from the city.
The pursuers recovered the watch but let
the thief go free, the latter haying beg-

TV Denison News:
Allow me briefly to correct an editorial
notice in Monday morning’s News,
touching Prof. Cornell’s proposed review
ot E. V. Wilson's lectures:
1 had nothing to do, nor had the Pres-
bytarian church anything to do in invit-
ing Prof. Cornell to deliver said lectures,
or sanctioning before hand all he might
sav. Application was made for the use
of the Presbyterian church, for this pur-
pose, and granted by the board of officers.
Let me say further, that Prof. Cornell’s
religious views are not “exceedingly
heterodox” from a Presbyterian stand-
point. In several non-essential and sub-
ordinate particulars he holds peculiar
views, but in the great essentials of the
Christian religion he is as sound and
orthodox as anybody. Moreover, he has
nothing to do with his peculiar religious
views in discussing Spiritualism. On
this latter subject he occupies the true
ground. Let everybody come out and
hear him. R. M. Carson.
We cheerfully give place to the above.
In a conversation with Prof. Cornell we
received the impression he had been in-
vited to review Dr. Wilson, but it seems
we misunderstood him.

Of failing energy, that to which the

creates a new fund of eneigy in the sys-

impurities from the life current which
beget disease. The injurious influence
of abrupt transitions of temperature, of
an unwholesome climate and injurious

Milton Mulugoin, a mixture of negro
and Indian, nine years old, was arrested
Tuesday and placed in jail at Sherman,
for attempting to murder a four year-old
white boy. The accused borrowed a pis-
tol of somebody at Mr. Everheart’s place,
walked up to the child and told him he
would kill him. He took deliberate aim
and fired. The ball entered the back of
the head. We understand that hopes are
entertained of saving the life of the

A Card From Dr. Morrison.
Editor News:
Sir: In your issue of Tuesday I find
it stated that I acknowledged the essen-
tial correctness of E. V. Wilson’s descrip-
tion of my parents and sell; and also that
I admitted that it was true, that at the
two distinct periods mentioned by the
Professor mv life was in imminent dan-
ger. Though not a Spiritualist, I must,
injustice to tne Seer, say that your state-
ment is correct. But the interest of truth,
which with me is always paramount, de-
mands that other and counter facts should
be stated.
First—It is not necessary to call in
super-mundane help in giving an approx-
imate description ot the physical appear-
ance and mental traits of one’s parents.
It only requires a knowledge of the laws
and principles governing the transmis-
sion ot characters and qualities from par-
ents to children. Nor does it require the
agency of spirits to depict the more prom-
inent points of a man’s mind. An expert
in phrenology, such as Fowler or Dr.
Crane, can readily do this without any
occult agencies whatever. I have wit-
nessed the latter describing the parents
of parties w.lh more minuteness and ac-
curacy than was attempted by Wilson.
Second—The Professor stated things in
my case which are not known to me as
facts. He said I had some defect in my
left shoulder and right hip. I have no
consciousness of any pain or trouble in
these parts. He also said there was too
much heat in my forehead. Of this I
know nothing. If he had said there was
something wrong with my right ankle,
he would have made a capital hit, but he
omitted the notice of this part probably
because it was too near the ground
Third—He said nothing about what I
consider the most important events ot
my life. These were either not registered
on spiritual tablets, or else he was una-
ble to decipher them. He said he saw no
spirits around me, because 1 was ot too
positive a nature. I then felt that in my
case there must be something about me
repellent to the airy denizens ot the up-
per ether—that so tar as spiritual sympa-
thy is concerned I was lett completely out
in”the cold. Neither the wicked and
tricky diakka, nor good and gentle spir-
its, could ever obsess or possess me. A
sad and desolate late, “paddling my own
canoe" ail about through time and eter-
nity ! But alter a little I was consoled by
the Seer, announcing that he heard the
voice of one Dr. Blossom, sending me his
compliments. As to who this Dr. Blos-
som is, or was, I am completely in the
derk. It was very kind, however, in this
Blossom-medico, to speak to me through
the medium. All other spirits have
avoided me as if I were a walking pesti-
lence. I have now some glimmerings of
hope that I may yet progress to a point
where I can hear the dear celestials, if 1
cannot see them. It will be such a com-
fort to listen to the voices, the songs and
the anthems of the heavenly host as they
flit and coruscate in the wide spaces of
Etheria, and the grand old halls of the
Empyrean. Alexander Morrison.

••Blood Will Tell.”
How rarely we meet a person of whom
we can say, he or she is the “Picture of
Health.” We daily meet those whose
faces betray the presence of dyspepsia, de-
bility. some liver affection, or impover-
ished blood. The blood is the life.—
When out of order many symptoms are
manifest that are attributed to other
causes, and yet when this is corrected all
disappear. An unsurpassed agent for
purifying and enriching the blood is
found in Dr, Sherman’s Prickly Asti Bit-
ters. They impart the “Bloom of youth1'
that art only imitates. Under their influ-
ence the “Sallow Tinge” of the skin, a*
well as pimples, blotches, and eruptions
disappear. Don’t let your prejudice pre-
ventyou from giving them a trial. They
are no vile intoxicating drink, but strictly
a medicine, being put up in the best Hol-
